Description:
Offered for sale, the iconic 1977 Formula 2 March 772P fitted with John Wilcox prepared 2.0 Ford BDG engine mated to Hewland FG400 gearbox.
The 772P chassis were only available to the works F2 team during 1977 and were built around the narrow 1975 Formula Atlantic monocoque, suitably strengthened to accept the works BMW engines. It proved to be quicker than the standard "wide chassis" 772's throughout the 1977 season.
Originally purchased by the present owner in 1983 from Roger Andreason Racing (advertised in Autosport as an ex-works car, chassis number 2) as a rolling chassis complete with the FG400 gearbox. From 1984 to 1993, the car competed in the National Formula open and Libre series fitted with a twin-turbo Rover V8 engine. For the 1998 season, the car was rebuilt to Formula 2 specification with the fitment of the Ford BDG engine (ex-Dorset Racing).
The car has been regularly raced competitively in the HSCC Derek Bell/Aurora series. Over this time the carb-fed engine has been maintained by John Wilcox and rebuilt around a new Alloy block. The March has been rebuilt around a fresh monocoque in 2005, along with new bodywork. We have the original tub, body molds, some spare uprights, suspension parts and an extra set of wheels to go with the car.
Last raced in 2016, the car has been maintained in running condition. The engine has just done one race at Oulton Park since its last rebuild, the car could be raced with a little recommissioning (extinguisher, battery etc)
This historically interesting car with continuous ownership/history since 1983, is realistically offered for sale at £49950 ono
