Chevron B17 Historic F3
Description:
The Chevron B17 is widely regarded as one of the best developed and most competitive chassis in one litre Formula 3. This stunning example (chassis 17.70.04) was purchased from the factory by New Zealander Bert Hawthorne and raced in British F3 using Holbay engines. Following a win at Brands and a third place at Thruxton Hawthorne crashed the car in practice for the British Empire Trophy at Oulton Park in late May, replacing it with a new Tui F3.
Chassis 04 was repaired at the factory and sold via Fred Opert to Ron Cohn (Modena, NY) to be used in SCCA Formula C in 1971. It remained in the USA and was later raced by Bill Anspach from 1973 to 1975, Sandy Brandt from 1976 to 1977, and Ric Capone in 1978.
Later acquired as a part completed project from Ed Lamantia, the Chevron was brought back to the UK. On arrival it was found that the rear of the chassis had been extensively modified to accept a Lotus Twin Cam, and that several of the suspension components were poorly manufactured and needed replacement. On this basis an extensive nut and bolt restoration was undertaken, initially involving chassis rectification and new suspension parts from Vin Malkie, followed by a full rebuild by Chevron specialists Red Rose Racing.
Fitted with numerous new parts, including a new bag tank. Freshly painted and available complete or as a rolling chassis. Large spares package.
Sensible offers and part exchanges considered. Viewing by appointment only please.
