Description:
Hilton & Moss are pleased to have this genuine 1966 Shelby GT350 for sale at our Bishops Stortford showroom.
The Shelby GT350 was produced from 1965 until 1966 with all cars delivered from the Ford San Jose assembly straight to Carroll Shelby for the ‘Shelby’ conversion and upgrade. The 1965 run of GT350s were all finished in classic Wimbledon White but in 1966 a variety of colours were released including optional ‘Le Mans’ top stripes.
This particular Shelby has been with its current UK owner since June 2017 where the vehicle was sold by the renowned auction House RM Sothebys.
This 1966 example was first shipped to Hayward Motors California who race prepared and then sold the car to Mr Arthur Flores. Hayward motors successfully campaigned a number of GT350Rs and thus begun supporting Flores who competed in SCCA California. The Shelby was raced extensively at Riverside and Laguna Seca from the year it was delivered up until 1975. This is one of just 12 known 1966 vehicles that competed in period.
After being sold by Flores the vehicle was purchased, restored and raced by Lebsack at a variety of tracks including Road Atlanta, Palm Beach, Sebring and Watkins Glen. In 1985 the car was sold to Mr James K Dobbs, a well-known collector who raced the vehicle at Road Atlanta in 1985 and 1986. The fourth owner Mr J Doll continued the cars racing Career running the car at the SAAC-19 1994 before selling to Mr Mantilia in 1995 who did not compete in the vehicle but did have the car painted classic Wimbledon white.
In 1996 the car was fully restored by Liebenberg and Kenworthy where it was painted in the red and white livery you see today. The Shelby was imported into the UK by its next owner who stored it until RM Sothebys sold the vehicle to the previous keeper in 2017.
The Mustang was used sparingly by the previous keeper primarily as a road vehicle. In March 2022 prior to this sale a major mechanical refresh was completed on the car. The overhaul cost just over £8,300 and has completely prepared this Mustang for the open road. The main work consisted of
- Brand new Tilton twin plate clutch kit
- Four new Avon CR6ZZ tyres
- Service including new brake fluid
- Brand new custom side exhaust pipe exhaust
- Handbrake mechanism renewal
- Electric cooling fan fitted and thermostatic controller
- General wiring tidy up
- Full inspection and health check.
This is a fantastic opportunity to own a genuine 1966 Shelby GT530 presented in great condition ready for immediate use and enjoyment. The car is available for viewings including underside inspection upon request.
