Ex-Ratzenberger 1987 Ralt RT31-VW F3. Chassis RT31:719
Both Ralts were F3 race winners in 1987. Ratzenberge won in the European Championship with his RT31 and Brabham won in the Lucas British F3 Championship with his RT31. Ratzenberger also finished on the podium in the British Championship. Both Ralts reportedly raced in 1988 as well.
The pair of Ralts were then sold to the Tracer Racing team in Modesto, CA, USA. Both raced briefly (maybe 3 races?) by Tracer as Formula Atlantics in SCCA Nationals. Then the car were put into storage and never raced again until after the current owner acquired both cars in 2017.
The Ratzenberger car, chassis number RT31:719, received a complete tub-up restoration that was completed in late 2019. The Ralt has been actively raced since in the Masters Formula Atlantic Plus series, with CSRG (N. California) in their FA/FSV Group 7, at the Weathertech/Brian Redman Road America event last summer, and once as a Formula Atlantic with SCCA (the car now has an SCCA logbook). The total running time since the restoration was completed is 16 hours. A full pre-season prep of the car has just been completed and it is ready to go.
The Ratzenberger car is available at US $49,000 and includes a spare set of uprights and all 4 corners of spare wishbones. The sale will also include a few spare Hewland Mk5 gearsets, and two complete sets of re-finished original Dymag wheels. An EFI fuel injection manifold and original electronics will also be included to permit the Ralt to be converted back to it original Euro-UK F3 spec if desired.
The second chassis, RT31:686, the ex-Gary Brabham car, is 90% complete. It includes a fresh zero-time Ron Hendrix VW 1.8. This car needs restoration. RT31:686 is offered for $25,000. Both cars can be purchased as a package.
The wheels and tires seen on RT31:686 in the photos go with the Ratzenberger car as its second set. 1.5-2 full sets of Dymags wil go with the Brabham car, although they need to be re-chromated.
A zero-time Ron Hendrix 1.8 VW engine will also come with this Ralt. In addition there is one set of Webers and a manifold that needs going through. Another EFI manifold with all the linkage and original electronics will also be included to convert back to Euro-UK F3 spec if desired.
