Jaguar E Type Semi-Lightweight - SOLD

This is now SOLD. Search for similar items.

Description:

In 1961, on the shores of Lake Geneva, Switzerland, Jaguar presented the Type E. A very sharp sports car, in line with the Type D domineering at Le Mans, which replaces the already sublime Jaguar XK. Designed by William Lyons, founder of the brand, and Malcolm Sayer, this Type E creates a shockwave in the world of sports cars. To the point that Enzo Ferrari will consider it as "the most beautiful car in the world".

The most beautiful car in the world, certainly, on the roads, but the firm of Coventry does not intend to stop there. From the tribute of Ferrari, the English brand wants even more: beat the 250 GT of the Scuderia Ferrari on the circuits. Extensive project, both the 250 GTO and 250 GT, with the V12 engine dear to the Commendatore, dominate on the world circuits.

To do this, Jaguar produces twelve lighter versions. The body, all aluminum, covered a motor based on the six-cylinder 3.8-liter car series, but aluminum, not cast iron. Very fast cars, but not reliable, and it will be necessary to iron to the block in cast iron, pushed to 300 bhp, so that the Jaguar regains some reliability.

It will meet some success with the drivers of the time and these "GTO killers" will be driven by Graham Hill, two-time F1 world champion and winner at Le Mans in 1971, Peter Lindner or Bob Jane, who made it win in the Australian GT Championship.

Rare, and difficult to find, the Type E Lightweight were quickly copied with cars mounted in semi-lightweight and present in historic races for many years. The semi-lightweight have only the aluminum opening (hood, doors, trunk).

Nowadays, the E-Types engaged in historic racing in France and track racing in the United Kingdom and the United States have become, with advanced preparations (often greater than 340 bhp), much more efficient, thus obtaining more and more trophies.

The proposed car was delivered new in November 1962 in road version in Iceland. It was converted to a racing version at the end of the 90's in Switzerland, and then was actually ridden by Nigel Morris of Valley Motorsport for John Minshaw. This car was then acquired in 2008 by a French amateur driver who has engaged this car in many historical events, often appearing at the top of the ranking.

This car has 7 Tour Auto, 3 Mans Classic, with victories in special stages at the TA (8 scratch), including a 3rd place at the 2014 Tour Auto. It has also been involved in 9 seasons of Peter Auto's Sixties Endurance with regular rankings in the top 5.

Followed without blinking for 10 years with more than 300 000 euros in bills, this car is particularly powerful.

The engine (completely revised 5 hours ago, just like the gearbox) develops 360 hp on the dyno, all on a straight port breech. The car weighs 1050 kilos.

The HTP is up to date (2016).

The best laps of this car on different circuits are as follows:

  • Spa - 2'55'2
  • Dijon- 1'36'5
  • Castelet - 2'38'2
  • Magny Cours - 2'03'3

This is probably one of the best-known Type E Semi-Lightweight in France in historical events and most certainly one of the cars even to be in the forefront.

The car will be delivered with 8 wheels, two exhausts (a track / an Auto Tour), and a pair of new rear wings.

Eligible car for the main Classic competitions including Tour Auto, Le Mans Classic, ...
