The Jordan F1 Team began their story in 1991 season with the Jordan 191 design by Gary Anderson. The "7up" Jordan 191 is widely regarded as the prettiest F1 car of it's era. The 191 was originally designed around a Judd V8 but it was finally fitted with a Cosworth V8 engine which proved to be a competitive package with the team scoring points in their first season. The Jordan 191 is also famous for Michael Schumacher debut race at Spa Francorchamps. The "Sasol" Jordan 192 was the predecessor of the 191, where Sasol oil company became the title sponsor. For the 1992 season Jordan made few modifications to the chassis or aerodynamics and planned on using a Cosworth V8 until the deal fell through leaving a late deal with Yamaha to supply a 3.5l V12 engine. The engine unfortunately proved to be unreliable, however the team still managed a 6th place finish in Adelaide. The "Sasol" Jordan 193 was the predecessor of the 192 and maintained the Sasol title sponsor. The car had upgraded aerodynamics (new wings and diffuser) and new Hart 1035 V10 engine. The package was competitive in the mid-field and claimed points in the Japanese GP where Eddie Irvine and Rubens Barichello finished in 5th and 6th places.
