Titan Mk6a Historic Formula Ford (1971) - SOLD

AGS

This is now SOLD. Search for similar items.

Description:

Car and current owner well known within the Historic Formula Ford circle and the HSCC paddock.

This Titan Mk6a has been superbly restored and is 100% reliable, with only 4-5 races since engine was fully rebuilt by Neil Bold and gearbox overhauled by JP Race.

Ex-team car run by Fred Opert on behalf of Titan in the USA during 1971, with all the period SCCA log-books confirming the car’s prestigious history retained as well as interview notes / declarations from period owners (inlcuding Fred Opert himself).

This Titan Mk6a would be a champion winning car in the right hands, as similar Titan Mk6's won the UK FF Championship in 1972 (with Derek Lawrence driving) and also won the 1971 and 1972 USA FF Championships.  The chassis is extremely stiff (despite the car being about 5kg underweight) with the main chassis tubes braced along the entire length of the car and the roll-hoop stay being triangulated. The car also has the lowest drag coefficients of all Formula Fords from this period due to its fully enclosed lightweight bodywork.

The cockpit is extremely roomy for a Formula Ford enabling "normal sized" adults (as opposed to jockey sized teenagers) to comfortably fit. This is actually why many Titan Mk6's landed up in the USA in period, where American racers were already "bigger boned" than their European counterparts!

Key spares like rear-uprights, cast engine mounts, bodywork, etc.  can all be obtained from the likes of Peter Denty and Simon Hadfield, making the Titan a simple car to run and to repair. The car also comes with current HSCC VIF paperwork, second set of Weller wheels, etc.

Genuine reason for sale, with the current owner having moved onto Formula Junior a few years back and now needing additional workshop space at home for the upcoming rebuild of a couple of Formula 1 cars.

No urgency to sell, so happy to wait for best offer in the £25k to £30k range…
