Race Car, Trailer & Spares – “Reluctant Retirement Package Sale”
Car History 1982 Royale RP31m Formula Ford 1600, Ch.No. RP31M/22. Delivered new to Hansen Engineering and entered for the Festival at Brand Hatch in 1982, then in 1984 sent to South Africa where it was prepared by Trevor van Rooyen and driven for half a season by Basil Mann to win the South African FF1600 championship. Returned to England in 2004 and bought by David Hunter from the original constructor, Alan Cornock. It ran it as a FF1600 until 2010, when it was upgraded to a 2 litre Black Top Ford Zetec with low drag wings and slicks.
Details of car • Engine standard Zetec running Megajolt ignition with Yamaha R1 carbs. Fully dry sumped, giving 156bhp on the dyno. • Space frame chassis with fully FIA/MSA compliant ROPS system • New Sabelt 6 point harness fitted 2018. • Bilstein suspension units, ventilated brake discs, new master cylinders. • Mk 9, 4 speed Hewland gearbox. New diff from Tony Wilson and several spare ratios. • Wheels, Madin 3 piece rims, 4 with used crossply slicks and 4 with tired wets. 7” and 8” A 92 Avons fitted. • 4-gallon foam filled fuel tank under the seat • Fire extinguisher system fully plumbed in and with several years to run. • New wheel bearings recently fitted. • Red top 30 battery Spares Package • 4 excellent Weller rims with regulation ACB 10 Formula Ford 1600 racing tyres. • All the parts required to put the car back in FF1600 form except the engine. • Set up bars and data sheet. • Jump start external battery and trolley. • Purpose built 2 axle trailer which is only 4 metres long – good value on ferry. New wheel bearings this season, included are bespoke cover, wheel clamp, tyre rack, motormover and quick lift jack. Room for spares also.
The future…. Could be converted to FF spec, and any parts needed are available from ACS and I also most parts for a FF engine bar the block. Could have a Ford Pinto engine fitted and run as a FF2000 or leave as is and run as a 2 litre hill climb / sprint car. The chassis on this car has never been altered and the original engine mounts will bolt straight in. It would benefit from a bit more power but in current form has never let me down and has been a lot of fun. The last 15 years I have spent chasing hill climbs in France and have had a wonderful time competing at some of the premier course de cote. Hebecrevon, Loc Aguiner, la Pommeraye and of course St. Goueno.
A bargain at £11,500.
