Sadly selling my 1967 Marcos 1600GT Race Car to help fund other projects. The car received a full nut and bolt restoration to race specification by Nostalgia Sportscars in France between 2005 and 2007, and is still in fantastic condition having only done a couple of track days and one race since. There is a video of the restoration on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=viGSr_BpMJA.

I had planned to race the car this season with the HSCC in their popular Historic Road Sports series, but due to other commitments I only found time to compete in their season opener race at Donington in April 2018 where the car ran faultlessly. Indeed, despite the fact I was taking it relatively easy as it was my first race in the car (and indeed the car’s first race) and the fact I actually managed to stall the car at the start (my fault), which put me to the back of the pack, I was then able to battle back through the field to finish 9th overall and 3rd in class, with a best lap time of 1:27.468. Indeed with some more seat time, I believe it could be a very competitive car indeed…

The car has been race prepared to the highest standard and is absolutely on the button. The engine is a rare AX block which was fully rebuilt to race spec by Rodger King at Steve Parker Racing / SPR Engineering and has been tuned and tested by Vulcan Engineering & HT Racing, delivering 160 BHP and 142 lbs/ft of torque. The gearbox is a straight cut box built by BGH Geartech. The car also comes with old FIA papers issued in France showing the car categorised in class FIA GTP 3. Full technical specification is as follows:

The car also has an extensive history file, with the original invoices and statements from Marcos Cars and the Midlands distributor, Foley Park Motors, showing that the 1600GT was originally ordered on 8th May 1967 to a Mr Maurice Partridge. There is also a detailed account of the cars history with letters from previous owners, which show that the car was actually fitted with a Cosworth engine in the late 60s and was at one point owned by the Director and Owner of Knockhill Race Circuit. Documentation also shows that it still remains in its original colour of ‘Light Silver Blue’ and still has its original registration number of “MUE 873E”.

The car was fully serviced before its race at HSCC Donington and is on the button, ready to race. There is also a large number of spares that come with the car including a set of original seats (recently refurbished), original door cards, a seperate set of race wheels with Dunlop racing tyres in as new condition, original fuel tank, two radiators, an extra steering wheel, spare front wishbone set and an number of other useful spares as well.

The car is located is Gloucestershire near Chipping Campden and viewing can be arrangement by appointment. In my opinion, the Marcos is not only a fantastic looking car with exceptional handling, but offers a cost effective way to go racing in many UK and European race series, with the ability to be up at the sharp end of the grid! On the button and in exceptional condition, all you need are your race overalls, helmet and some petrol…
