Description:

The car has had many modifications so I will try to give as an informative overview of it as I can, but I can not guarantee I will remember everything, I apologise for the length of the description!

The car is still road registered and on a SORN, I have the V5 logbook for the car in my name.

BMW 3.5L Racing car, or could be used for a hill climb, sprint or track day car.
This was built back in 2002/3 as a race car and is based on a heavily modified 1987 BMW 325i E30 Coupe (factory Alpine White). The car has been dry stored since when not used.

The engine and gearbox has been relocated behind the front suspension cross member, this has dramatically changed and improved the handling and poise of the car, this work has resulted in a new bulkhead and transmission tunnel being formed further back in the car (see photos).

The 3.5 litre engine and gearbox is from an E28 M535i (sohc), the engine has been fully rebuilt (has done approx 4 races and a couple of test days) and the idea was to supercharge it giving good usable power and affordable replacement engines if needed.

The car was built to the regulations of the MSA Blue book 2002/3, and has passed scrutineering at Pembry, Castle Combe and Donington Park on a number of occasions, I do not think too much has changed since then.

Body:
Extensive modifications to the front bulkhead and transmission tunnel area including new box section framework fitted with aluminium bulkhead panels, the top middle panel is designed to be removed for maintenance or an inquisitive scrutineer.

Full roll cage fitted to the body with additional body mounting points including a horizontal bar for rear harness attachment.

Rear bulkhead has been fireproofed.

Spare wheel well removed.

Fuel tank removed.

Modified rear inner arches and rear shock absorber top mountings for coil over shock absorbers.

Polycarbonate windows fitted all round and a standard laminated windscreen, drivers side window just has an aperture in it so a proper slider kit would be a good addition.

Welded up sunroof and the exhaust now exits through the modified o/s sill.

Small OMP suede steering wheel and boss fitted.

DTM single wiper conversion.

Modified M3 front spoiler/bumper fitted.

Lightweight fibreglass front bonnet.

Lightweight fibreglass rear boot lid and spoiler.

The whole underneath of the car was sprayed with a white Shultz type coating, the shell is still nice and sound as any bad parts were repaired when the car was built and the car has been dry stored since.

Suspension and steering:
Lowered front suspension with Spax adjustable damper inserts, the front struts would benefit from having the adjustable spring mounts welded on that Demon Tweeks now sell so that the front ride height can be more easily adjusted.

Rear height and damper adjustable coil over shock absorbers fitted, the standard rear springs and top spring mounting bosses have been removed so the suspension can run at very low heights. There are some custom suspension 'chocks' for the rear that can be used to raise the rear end to load/unload the car from a trailer/car transporter without scraping, these are fitted in the photos which is why the rear of the car is sat up slightly.

Standard manual rack with steering column rubber coupling replaced by solid aluminium.

Rear subframe to body rubber mounts replaced by steel mounts.

Standard anti roll bars fitted front and rear.

Front wheel bolts changed to studs and nuts and spacers fitted, there are spare studs, nuts and spacers which could be fitted to the rear.

There are currently wheel spacers fitted on the front hubs so that the wheels clear the four pot calipers, these do need improving as they are universal type ones or different wheels or calipers fitting, Demon Tweeks now do some much better Eibach Pro spacers.

Brakes:
AP four pot calipers or something similar fitted to the front, these are not designed for the car hence the need for the wheel spacers these are the same ones as used on the Seat Cupra R so race pads are easily available, spare front pads are included, standard type discs are still used and cope fine with race use and are cheap to replace.

Standard rear calipers, these cope fine so long as good quality pads are used.

Adjustable brake bias valve fitted in reach of driver.

Stainless steel braided brake hoses fitted all round with race brake fluid.

Engine:
3.5 litre straight six, rebored and fitted with good quality standard spec pistons, crack tested crank and rods, new big end bolts, new standard size big end and main shells, new timing chain, oil pump, overhauled head with new rockers, shafts and a new higher lift Kent/Piper cam (I am not sure if I will be able to find the number of it? but if not it was supplied as suitable for supercharger use as I explained to Kent/Piper what it was being used for), front pulleys changed for lightweight alloy ones of the multi groove flat belt type, lightened flywheel, new core plugs etc.
I am not sure of the bhp as I have never had it on a rolling road but it must have at least an extra 25bhp more than standard and the car is very light!

Clutch, gearbox, prop and rear diff:
Race clutch plate fitted with heavy duty clutch cover.
Lightened flywheel fitted.
Standard 535i gearbox fitted.
One section of the prop shaft has been modified and there is a spare modified section.

A modified LSD rear diff is fitted I can not remember the ratio but it was as high as I could easily get so as to counter the low ratios in the gearbox, it has had extra lsd plates fitted so I think it is 50 – 60 % lock up now, I do remember it was an expensive job, please note there is no speedo sensor plate fitted inside so the speedo does not work.

Safety equipment:
There is a manually operated plumbed in fire extinguisher system (will need inspecting or a new extinguisher, its still in the green zone on the gauge just the date has run out)
Manual electrical cut off.
Corbeau Revolution bucket seat with the integral head side support mounted on adjustable alloy brackets.
Good quality OMP six point harness in as new condition.

Fuel system:
Mostly standard on the engine as until the supercharger was fitted I was not sure what was needed, has a fuel pressure gauge fitted, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, a Superchip is fitted in the ecu tuned supposedly for a supercharger, I have just leaned it out on the fuel pressure until a supercharger is fitted, you will need to replace the rubber elbow connecter by the throttle body as it has split while standing, it is tapped up so it does run okay but MUST be replaced before using it on the track as it may run too lean.

Boot mounted small alloy tank, think it is about four gallons which is enough for a normal race distance, with alloy swirl pot, small slave pump and main high pressure pump and filter.

Exhaust:
Still running the standard cast manifold and down pipes which run into a race type silencer mounted where the fuel tank would have been, runs at about 95-98Dba, additional exterior mounted Supertrapp type silencer is included.

Electrics:
Stripped down loom to provide the bare essentials, all the lights still work, and it charges okay, standard gauge cluster has been refitted, the speedo and fuel gauge do not work, the important things do.

Spares:
One set of part worn slicks which are Yokohama plus unused spare slick tyre.

The car is located in Ashton, South Bristol BS3 area, viewing by appointment is welcome but please no time wasters.
I have lots more photos of the car I can forward but I would expect any serious buyer to want to view the car...

The car can be paid for in cash on collection or via bank transfer ONLY.
