Description:
Radical Clubsport / Prosport / PR6 Hybrid
The car started life as a Clubsport with a 1100cc Kawasaki engine and no aero. I liked this as it means the car has had a hell of a lot less stress on the chassis and running gear than the big power and aero cars which commonly fatigue the chassis and suspension to the point of multiple failures.
I bought the car and had RLM convert it to what it is today, which is I guess is best described as a bit of a hybrid between a Clubsport / Prosport and PR6 spec.
Rich Webb of RLM put a HUGE amount of hours into the details of the design and build of the car and most of the credit must go to him.
The concept is to race in OSS with a 1299cc engine therefore in Class D and then see how many of the Class A, B and C cars we could beat by keeping the car’s weight low via a simplicity of design and function, achieving maximum reliability - and all at a much lower cost for ongoing running than the rest of the competition.
So a basic outline of the car is as follows :
Radical Clubsport base car (ie exactly the same as a Prosport in terms of chassis and base format)
Radical Prosport aero pack, i.e. front splitter, dive planes, rear diffuser and rear wing
Radical Prosport crash box
1299cc Gen 1 Hayabusa engine.
High compression Pistal slipper pistons.
Originally built by Daytuner. (details on copy of invoices available)
Rebuilt by RLM with several Gen 2 parts where required for strength and reliability, (details on copy of invoice available)
Running time to date is mapping and approx. an hour on track.
SBD throttle bodies
SBD Air Trumpet Set
SBD air filter
Just under 200 bhp AT THE WHEELS.
Sigma Slipper Clutch (as per race Superbikes), this prevents over revving of the engine on downshifts
Life F88RS ecu - as per the later PR6 cars – provides many extremely useful operational and monitoring functions including the ability to set safety trips for every important parameter providing maximum protection for the engine in race conditions.
Geartronics flatshift, and load-cell gear lever – provides a seamless ignition cut on upshifts enabling full throttle upshifts.
Intrax 3 way dampers and brand new springs
New upper wishbones front and back to give increased camber
Braid SR1 / 4 wheels - 3 sets. (2 sets fitted with Dunlop slicks & 1 set fitted with Dunlop wets).
New PF 01 brake pads front and rear
Willwood 4 pot calipers on front and rear.
New oil lines in steel braided hose
New fuel lines in steel braided hose
New coolant hoses in silicon hose.
New Bosch fuel pump and filter
New Davies Craig electric water pump
New silencer – repackable.
PR6 exhaust primaries and secondaries
Uprated heavy duty driveshafts
New engine mounts
New clutch slave cylinder
New front sprocket
New rear sprocket
New drive chain
New petrol tank - custom made for up to 30 minute races to prevent fuel surge and minimise weight.
New wiring loom throughout
New fire extinguisher
New Momo steering wheel
A brand new Aim MXS dash with GPS and full data logging (these cost £1800 !) – enables all parameters to be logged plus track laps to be overlaid via the GPS traces to provide insight to the optimum lap and driver development etc
The car is nearly 60 kgs lighter than a PR6 which offers a very real and significant advantage in performance.
I also have a full set of spare genuine front and rear bodywork plus side pods. These are in a red and black design – photo attached.
I have some useful spares such as wishbones, drive-shafts, various odds and sods.
I also have a PR6 front splitter.
I also have a set of bolt on PR6 wheels fitted with Pirelli slick tyres.
I have all the original parts and wheels etc if any are wanted / useful to the new owner.
I am very open to mixing and matching specific parts of the car and overall specification to get whatever works best for both the seller and myself.
As for values, having added up the amount spent it is obvious that I need to recognise that the amount put in is always eye wateringly painful compared to what comes back !!
So, there are several options depending upon the buyer’s preference:
The car as per full spec listed but with a Radical dash, standard Radical gear lever and fitted with newly rebuilt Avo dampers and new Eibach springs plus including the full set of spare bodywork and 3 sets of wheels would be £12.5K
The car as above, but fitted with the 3 way adjustable Intrax dampers in place of the Avo’s would be £14.5K
The car with everything on it as per listed specification, ie as it stands now, including the 3 way Intrax dampers, Geartronics flatshift and Aim MXS dash with integral GPS & datalogging, ready to race and including the full set of spare bodywork and 3 sets of wheels would be £17K
I would also consider selling the car as a rolling chassis ie minus engine and ancillaries. Price is negotiable.
I also have a very low hours 1400cc Hayabusa engine that could be used in place of the 1300cc unit if desired.
It would also be possible to return the car to it’s original powertrain of the 1100cc engine (which has not been run since extensive modification and complete rebuild by RLM). Price is negotiable.
The more I think about the car while writing this advert, then the more I regret considering selling it, however the reason for thinking of a change of plans is due to a unique opportunity to race a team of two Caterhams next year, including racing at SPA, as these are easier for me and the good lady to run on our own.
The car is perfect for lots of competitive fun at sensible costs in the OSS Championship, (which is what its intended use was when building), but would also be suitable for other circuit racing in 750MC Bikesports, and / or MSVR Allcomers races. Alternatively, it would make a good hill-climb / sprint car or if the fancy takes you an extremely useful machine to embarrass expensive exotica on track days !
The last thing to say is that I think the concept of the car and the execution of the build was proven in its first outing when due to a lack of running in qualifying, and therefore having to start from the back of the 26 car grid, a finishing position of 11th overall was achieved in only a 20 minute race. This was the cars first race and without the opportunity to optimise set up due to zero testing beforehand.
Please contact me on 07703 471917 to ask any questions, discuss options / a deal or arrange to come and view the car in person.
Equally for an independent opinion of the car, please feel free to speak to Rich at RLM as he knows the car very well from his work during the build and also from driving it himself.
I will add better photos at the weekend.
