ALFA ROMEO INDY CART ENGINE - SOLD
This is now SOLD. Search for similar items.
Description:
INCREDIBLY RARE! Only a few of these engines are known to remain. It is a very compact and light unit, approx. 155kg, aluminium and magnesium. It produces around 680hp with turbo on methanol at 11,500rpm. Was also used as the basis for the prototype Ferrari Cart collaboration and shares some characteristics with their 87 period F1 engine, same bore, stroke and compression of 11:1.
There is a lot of information about this engine on-line, such as;
http://8w.forix.com/march90ca-activeduty4.html.
It is largely complete, throttle butterflies work fine, turns over freely by hand and the valves are moving. It has the wiring harness and non-original ignition box. It has been in storage for a number of years so would need stripping and checking before use. There is some damage from storage to the plenum cover and one end cover, they are magnesium and could likely easily be repaired by a company's has Exactweld. The water pumps are there but the housings have been damaged and cut so would need repairs or re-making. Some of the connectors are damaged and wiring loom has been partially modified for the unknown new ignition box. The clutch is an AP with starter ring fitted by the previous owner. Please study photos, sold strictly as is.
The previous owner intended to run it on race fuel and normally aspirated in an F3000 car and it comes with an additional modified plenum, it could be adapted for a variety of uses and is a very cost effective option compared with a comparative F1 engine of this period.
