Race details: Sullivan took advantage of Robby Gordon's blown tire on the last lap of the Detroit 200 to earn his first Indy Car victory since the ’92 Long Beach Grand Prix. While Gordon's Lola-Ford wobbled to an eighth-place finish, Sullivan crossed the line 12.21 seconds ahead of the Lola-Ford of Brazilian Raul Boesel. Mario Andretti was third in a Lola-Ford, just ahead of Italian Andrea Montermini in a Lola-Chevy. The day's most important penalty pre-empted a dash to the finish by teammates Sullivan and Al Unser Jr. On lap 69, when second-place Unser attempted an inside pass of leader Sullivan, Unser knocked over three cones considered not part of the course. Unser received a stop-and-go penalty, dropped to eighth place and eventually finished sixth.
In 1993, Lola produced the only customer cars for the Indycar series. In fact, three quarters of most Indycar fields that year consisted of Lolas. The T93/00 chassis could accommodate the Ford-Cosworth and Chevrolet V8 or the taller Buick V6 turbo motors.
This is one of the rare surviving examples complete with its original Ilmor-Chevy engine.
In what was an otherwise lackluster season for Danny Sullivan and Galles Racing, this car won the Detroit GP and finished third in Toronto. Sullivan won the 1985 Indianapolis 500 and was CART champion in 1988.
