Chevron B42-78-08 Formula 2, Derek Daly's ICI works car - SOLD

This is now SOLD. Search for similar items.

Description:

B42-78-08 is the works Chevron raced by Derek Daly in 1978 en-route to Formula 1, with sponsorship (and memorable green and white livery) from ICI and Derek McMahon. During 1978 only B42's driven by Daly and Rosberg presented any serious opposition to the March-BMW 782's of Giacomelli and Surer.

Engine is Hart 420R 78764 (287 BHP at 9,500 RPM), gearbox is Hewland FGA 328.

A well-documented history (mainly in Ireland since 1978) includes Gary Gibson who drove the car with much success in Formula Atlantic in 1979, and Billy Gowdy who used it to win the Budge Trophy race for single seaters at Chevron's 25th anniversary meeting at Donington in July 1990. Third and current private owner is Irish legend Tommy Reid, on whose behalf the car is offered for sale by Crosslé Car Company.

Currently painted red, some original ICI bodywork, moulds, wheels, wishbones and other spares are included in the price. A complete set of new B42 bodywork in original ICI colours is available separately.

Last raced in 2012 following extensive renovation by Chevron Racing (Vin Malkie), the Hart 420R engine has low hours since rebuild by Race Engine Design and the car requires relatively minor preparation to again complete at the front. The car was displayed in 2015  alongside B1 during the marque's 50th anniversary celebrations, and is well known within the UK Chevron community.
