1961 Lotus 20/22 Formula Junior - SOLD

This is now SOLD. Search for similar items.

Description:

Chassis 20 J946 is one of the most original Lotus 20's in existence, with a fully documented history from new. The car was purchased via Lotus Cars USA (Western Distributors Inc.) on the 19.8.1961 by Byron Snow Jnr.

Snow Jnr paid the sum of $5676.12 for the car, taking out a bank loan in the process; This required him to road register the car as a 'LOTUS ROADSTER'!! - The original California 'pink slip' and bill of sale is included in the car's history file along with related paperwork.

The car was raced prolifically by him throughout the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s until he hung his gloves up in the mid 1990s. 20 J946 remained in his garage, as it had last raced, until his health deteriorated and he passed away in 2008 - I purchased the car at this stage.

The Car Now Boasts -

  • Original Factory Chassis (Restored and strengthened with replacement tubes where necessary by FJ guru Derek Walker - The car ran exterior water rails due to the California climate, unlike European FJ cars that ran the water through the chassis rails).
  • Original Chassis Plate (One of a handful of 20/22's to retain its original 'Lotus Components' chassis tag)
  • FIA HTP, dated 29th August 2014
  • Zero-timed engine to full Richardson-spec, built by Sam Wilson with Dyno sheets - 126bhp and reputedly the most powerful customer MAE engine that Sam has built to date.
  • Gearbox rebuilt by Pete Smith of PDS Racing, with approximately 3 races since.
  • The car was fully rebuilt by Nigel Grant last season and has covered only three races since.
  • The car last ran at Cadwell Park, where it led the race, eventually placing second behind multiple-time FJ champion John Millicivic.
  • Comprehensive history file, comprising the car's period log books, original invoice from Lotus, import papers, lots of period photographs and all related sundry paperwork.
  • A one-owner car from 1961 - 2008.
  • With the 60th anniversary of Historic FJ fast approaching, this car represents an oppurtunity to take part in some of the highest profile historic race meetings all over the globe.

The asking price for the car is £75,000 GBP and is only the second time it has been offered for sale in 54 years!
