Description:

2006 BMW 116i E87 built by me for the 116 Trophy in 2022 and raced from the beginning of the 2023 season.

The car has competed throughout the 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026 seasons, predominantly in the 90-minute 116 Trophy endurance races, together with four 116 Sprint races.

It has proved exceptionally reliable and has never had a DNF.

The car is fully compliant with the 2026 116 Trophy regulations and is genuinely ready to race. It last raced at Silverstone in August 2026 and, if not sold beforehand, I intend to race it again at Donington in October.
 

Extensively documented history

One unusual feature of this car is that its build, maintenance and development have been extensively documented on YouTube.

I have produced 193 videos covering the original race-car build, subsequent maintenance, repairs, modifications, setup and tuning. This gives a prospective owner a very detailed record of the car and how it has been looked after throughout my ownership.

Engine and transmission

The original engine was replaced during the build in 2022 with an approximately 80,000-mile unit. The timing chain was replaced at the same time.

The big-end bearings have been replaced between every race season and the engine oil is changed every two race meetings.

The standard clutch was replaced at the start of the 2025 season.

Transmission specification includes a TTV lightweight solid flywheel, replacing the original dual-mass flywheel.

Brakes

Standard brake discs as required by the regulations, fitted with Carbon Lorraine race pads.

Safety equipment

• Motamec GP1 race seat – dated to end of 2027
• Motamec six-point harness – dated to end of 2027
• RRS 5.3-litre plumbed-in fire extinguisher system – next service due September 2027
• Cartek push-button electrical cut-off

Wheels, tyres and spares

The car comes with:

• Two sets of wheels
• One set fitted with tyres used for two race meetings
• One set fitted with new scrubbed tyres
• Spare pair of driveshafts

A Race Car Radio analogue radio system is also included.

An AiM Solo DL, SmartyCam and rear-facing camera are available with the car for an additional £950. Otherwise these will be sold separately.

Condition

The sides of the car are in very good condition.

The front and rear bumpers have the usual race-car bumps, scuffs and scratches but are completely serviceable. The car requires no significant work before its next race.

The V5 is present.

Race history

The car's best recorded Trophy result is 6th at Snetterton.

I don't regard my own results as particularly representative of the potential of the car – I'm very much an enthusiastic amateur rather than one of the quickest drivers in the championship. More importantly, the car has been consistently reliable throughout four seasons of racing.

Reason for sale

This is a genuinely reluctant sale.

I built the car myself and have had enormous fun racing it over the last four seasons. I had always planned to stop racing when I reached 70, which is now two years away.

My plan has always been to sell the car and trailer at this stage and use the proceeds towards Arrive & Drive racing for my final two seasons.

The car is therefore being sold because of that planned change of approach, not because there is anything wrong with it.
