Description:

Ginetta G12

A rare December 2017 Ginetta G12, built by the legendary Walklett brothers who originally designed the mid-engined icon. This ultimate piece of British automotive history bridges historic design with an authentic late-period build.

The Ultimate Genesis: A Walklett-Built Ginetta G12

Some cars are manufactured. This one was conjured by its creators.

Finished in December 2017, this Ginetta G12 carries the most sacred provenance in the marque's history. It was built directly by the Walklett hands that originally drew the lines and shaped the fiberglass of Britain’s most infamous giant-killer. This is not a replica or a vintage restoration; it is a rare, late-craft continuation of the 1960s mid-engine legend, brought to life by the family genius that started it all.

Weighing next to nothing and wrapped in that unmistakable, curvaceous low-slung bodywork, it delivers a visceral, unfiltered driving experience that modern supercars can only dream of. Slot into the cockpit, feel the connection through the tubular spaceframe chassis, and experience true motorsport purity.

Opportunities to acquire a G12 are scarce; an authentic Walklett-built late-edition car is a once-in-a-lifetime-event.

The Chassis

I initially purchased the G12 as a body chassis from the Walklets, after a previous customer had backed out of a commission for the G12 build.

After approximately 12 months of owning the vehicle, which I stored in my garage, and because I did not have the time to build the vehicle myself, I decided to commission the Walklets to complete the build for me and to arrange to get the vehicle registered for road use.

The Gearbox

A new MBR963 Hewland Mk9 gearbox was purchased from Mark Bailey Racing, with the following specification :

·      Mark 9 Gearbox, 5 Speed

·      Ratios - 14/36 (5 speed Layshaft 1st), 17/34 2nd, 20/32 std, 22/29 std, 25-26 std

o   2.57                                            2.0                1.6              1.31           1.04

·      CWP - 9/31

·      Powerflow Ltd Slip Diff, 45/80 Ramps

·      Clutch Shaft - HC-239-4

·      HC9-218 Driveshafts (12 Hole 5/16" or 3/8" holes) 78mm PCD

·      HC9-205/6 MK9 Soleplates

·      MK9 VW Rhino Maincase, with 4 hole clamp plate to suit, FT Pinion Bearing to suit

·      Clutch Release assembly

·      FF Adaptor Plate (55mm thick) - included with Gearbox

·      Stud - Adaptor Plate (Short) - included with Gearbox

·      Stud - Adaptor Plate (Long) - included with Gearbox

The Engine

I purchased the (all steel) engine, which was built with new parts, from Tony Ingram. The short engine had all the best parts in it:

·      Doug Kiddie Crank

·      Carillo rods

·      JE Pistons

·      ARP Fasteners, etc etc

·      The Head is a 1.625 inlet, 1.400 exhaust inlet ports are right at 1.250 diameter.  Comp ratio is 11.76 : 1

·      83.50mm x 72.75mm

·      Cams are .465 lift, fairly short duration

·      Power was good, nice flat curve, figures are from a very good calibrated dyno that is quite modest on figures

According to the Walklets, this may be the last G12 made as a road going vehicle.  This makes this G12 quite rare and desirable.

It is a beautiful, smooth drive. Very responsive and quick.
