An early, UK-supplied, Renault Clio Cup competition car, originally constructed by Mark Fish Motorsport using a factory-supplied shell from Renault Sport's Dieppe facility and later developed into a BARC Tin Top Championship winner.

DESCRIPTION

Constructed in 1991 by Mark and Simon Fish of Mark Fish Motorsport, this Renault Clio 16V competition car was built using a shell supplied directly by Renault Sport from its Dieppe factory in France. The shell was acquired alongside a second factory-supplied shell for use in the inaugural UK Clio Cup championship, a support series to the British Touring Car Championship. Originally finished in white, the Clio competed in period, including appearances at Spa Francorchamps, before later being refinished in the official Mark Fish Motorsport pink livery in which it is presented today.

Following its competition career with Simon Fish, the car was sold to Peter Osborne, who continued its development with support from Mark Fish Motorsport. During this period, the Clio was fitted with a fully forged, high-compression, naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre Williams-based engine, built in house by MFM and understood to produce approximately 220bhp.

Peter Osborne campaigned the Clio for a number of years, securing the 2014 BARC Tin Top Championship whilst competing under the sponsor-designated alias 'The Silver Lady'. Following the championship-winning season, the engine was inspected and refreshed prior to the car being retired from active competition.

In 2015, the Clio was sold to a Renault enthusiast, who recommissioned the car before placing it into storage within a private collection.

Our vendor acquired the Clio in spring 2025 and subsequently commissioned a health check and map inspection at EFI Parts. The car was then entered into the annual Mk1 Clio Track Day, where the vendor reports that it performed faultlessly. The car has seen minimal use since.

The car is not accompanied by a current Motorsport UK logbook or other in-date competition papers. It may be suitable for a number of historic motorsport series, potentially including the CTCRC Pre '93 category, although interested parties should satisfy themselves as to current eligibility and compliance with the regulations of any series in which they intend to compete.
