This advert is for the sale of a nicely running Porsche 911 2.4TE air cooled engine, currently fitted to my manual 1972 911.

Specifically, this is a Porsche 2.4T engine on mechanical fuel injection (MFI), as built by the factory for US-specification cars to comply with emissions regulations.  Hence, it is a Type 911/51 engine.

I installed this engine as a stop gap 23 years ago (!) until my numbers matching engine was rebuilt. I'm now close to having the original engine ready to go back in my car.

The engine can be seen running and could be driven before purchase, depending on timing regarding the installation of my new engine..

I bought the engine from Transend (Peter Andrews, Cambridgeshire) in 2003 and have covered 10800 miles with it across the UK and to Le Mans, etc. It was purchased as rebuilt, but not by Transend, on new cases: there is no engine number.

The lower camshaft covers are the uprated 911 Turbo versions (see photos).

It was set up and dyno'd by the late Bob Watson in 2007, 8400 miles ago and made 140bhp then, matching factory output.  I have the dyno printout.

I ran a compression test 2600 miles ago during routine servicing with pressures across all cylinders ranging from 175-185psi.

I have receipts and paperwork to support all the above. I change the oil and filter regularly and run it on Valvoline racing oil.  The engine starts easily from cold or hot.

No warranty is implied or given.

It’s a reluctant sale. My plan was always to fit it in a 914. However, time is against me and most of all I want to have the original engine back in my 911 to enjoy and so am selling this engine to offset some of the associated cost.

It will be sold without the currently fitted heat exchangers and exhaust, which will be fitted to my rebuilt engine.  However, the separate, unfitted exhaust and heat exchangers that are in good condition and are pictured in this advert will be included in this sale.  

I can provide videos etc to interested parties (driving, depending on the weather; cold start; hot start), but please be aware I work away from home which may delay these being recorded.

The engine is located in Guildford, Surrey.  It will be removed professionally by a very well known early Porsche 911 specialist company just North of Banbury, from where ideally it would be collected.  This company is rebuilding my original engine.
