Wainer was a small, avant-garde racing car manufacturer based in Milan, Italy. The company was run by Gianfranco 'Wainer' Mantovani. The first car was a Formula Junior made in 1958 and the last car was a Formula 3 made at the end of the 1980s. This 1959 built Wainer Fiat was one of the first cars to introduce a rear-engine configuration in Formula Junior racing. The bodywork is made entirely of aluminium and is beautifully sculpted - a real piece of art.

This example has been extensively raced in 1959 and 1960, and driven by Manfredini. It competed in almost 30 races in 1959 and 10 more in 1960. This is all documented with period pictures. The most significant achievement was the victory in the ICECAR race in Cortina in January 1959, where the Wainer Fiat won in a race with much more powerful cars and well-known racers (including Lorenzo Bandini). What an achievement ! This elegant single-seater is powered with a race prepared Fiat 1100 TV engine, fitted with ultra rare Weber 38 carburettors. It had a specially designed and reinforced ladder frame, and fitted with 4 real Borrani rims.

The car was restored about 20 years ago by Wainer Mantovani himself, and has been perfectly maintained and conserved since. The last owner took part in many demonstration events, and participated in the 2019 and 2023 Vernasca Silver Flag event in Italy, where he had the car autographed by famous Italian F1 driver Arturo Merzario.

This little gem is ready to race and is eligible for many important historic race events (Monaco Historic GP, Goodwood Revival,... ). Thanks to its rarity (only four were built), design and excellent condition, it is also likely to be a good candidate for participation in concours d'elegance events.
