MCS-I × 13B Rotary

Description:

A true unicorn for rotary enthusiasts and classic race car collectors.
Now available: a legendary MCS Grand Champion Race Series machine, powered by a freshly overhauled Mazda 13B rotary engine – a symbol of the golden era of Japanese motorsport, reborn.

About the Fuji Grand Champion Series

The Fuji Grand Champion (GC)Race Series, held from 1971 to 1989 at Fuji Speedway, was one of Japan’s top-tier motorsport series, rivalling even the All-Japan F2 Championship in popularity.
With regulations allowing only production-based engines and banning factory works units, it became a battleground of innovation, creativity, and raw driver skill.

From the late '70s, most competitors began using two-seater race cars by Mooncraft, leading to the introduction of single-seaters in 1979 – and with them, the MCS was born.

What is the MCS-I?

Unveiled by Mooncraft in 1979, the MCS-I was a radical leap forward – a single-seat, center-cockpit machine replacing the traditional two-seater style.
Its debut season saw the legendary Satoru Nakajima win the championship, showcasing the MCS-I’s unmatched performance.

With only 17 original cowls ever produced, this is an extremely rare machine. Two chassis types were used:

  • An aluminum twin-tube frame by Ito Racing (Aichi Prefecture)
  • Modified March F2 monocoques

The vehicle offered here features the authentic Ito Racing twin-tube chassis, staying true to the original MCS-I spirit.

About the Vehicle for Sale

  • Original Owner: The late Fumiyasu Sato, who purchased this car new from Mooncraft in 1980
  • Engine: Period-correct Mazda 13B Sports Kit (fresh overhaul completed)
  • Condition: Partially restored body + 13B rotary engine (OH complete, with some spec modifications)
  • Status: Unfinished project – full restoration required
  • Missing Major Components: Hewland FG400 gearbox, brake calipers, exhaust manifold, etc.

➡ A rare opportunity for a dedicated enthusiast to restore a piece of motorsport history.
Once completed, it could be a show-stopping centerpiece in any private collection, or a capable entry into historic race events and demo runs.

💎 One-of-a-Kind "MCS × 13B" Package

This specific combination – MCS chassis + 13B rotary engine – is virtually nonexistent on today’s market.
The 13B engine alone holds considerable value, being a genuine Sports Kit unit once used by a top Japanese GC team in 1983.

This is more than just a project car – it's a rare chance to revive a racing legend.
Will you be the one to bring it back to life?
