« The ideal car to win Tour Auto and the Modena Cento Ore! »
- the face of the failures of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, it was decided to turn all the Scuderia's efforts to Formula 1... Unsurprisingly, some customers knocked on the maestro's door with the aim of taking part in Group 4 races: Enzo Ferrari then asked Giuliano Michelotto to work in his Officina on the construction of an entirely new car, based on the 308.
- On March the 2nd 1978, the wizard from Padua presented his newborn, the now legendary ‘308 Gr. 4 Michelotto’. The body, made of fibreglass and Kevlar, was enlarged, and the chassis was completely reworked. The beast boasted a weight of around 1 tonne and a power output of almost 300 bhp... Success followed, culminating in two victories in the 1981 and 1982 Tour de France Automobile. After 11 cars had been produced, the FIA regulations changed and the 308 Michelotto moved up to Group B.
- Our copy came off the production line in a dry sump version with Weber carburettors, the version that served as the basis for Group 4 homologation, and therefore the only one eligible for this class today. Between 2015 and 2016, it received a full Group 4 preparation with Michelotto features: reinforced chassis, fibreglass doors and bonnets, hydraulic handbrake, brake distributor, new dampers, etc. The engine was then prepared by JMR Motorsport: forged pistons, special steel liners, new valves, crankshaft, etc. After a complete tune-up, the car could now boast 297 hp for 1,050 kg!
- After its preparation (orchestrated via Spain), the car was sold to an English collector, then to a Portuguese gentleman racer. The latter will drive the car in the Tour Auto 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, as well as the Modena Cento Ore 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 with a class victory in 2023! Our road test enabled us to observe the ease of use of this particular model, prepared for long-distance rallies such as those mentioned earlier. At low revs, the car is well tuned and doesn't clog up, and as soon as the rev counter starts to tick over, all the car's power unfurls in a marvellous symphony orchestra... It's also important to know that the HTP is valid until the end of 2026, allowing the future owner to calmly consider entering next year's events!
- With the Ferrari 308 Gr.4 winning the Tour Auto in 2024 and 2025, and this particular example winning its class at the 2023 Modena Cento Ore, the competitiveness of these cars in the most interesting races on the calendar is clear. This is your chance to reach the top of the podiums, for a reasonable price!
