1992 Swift SC92F Formula Ford and enclosed trailer

 

Swift SC92F that requires some work to finish. Includes enclosed trailer.

Car has the desirable 711M block and Hewland LD200 gearbox and is eligible for various pre-94 Formula Ford championships.

Bad points:
Starter engagement issue – starter gear appears to be pushing away from ring gear (wrong gear?) so only has a few good starts before the gear doesn't mesh. New starter shaft required.
Two bellhousing lugs have broken off the engine block. This does not affect the ability to fit it to the car (other lugs are fine and significant additional triangulation through the cast bellhousing).
One pushrod is right hand thread both ends so could do with replacing.
Bodywork is tatty but repairable, and complete bodywork is available from Swift (they are still going) and is cheap enough that my plan was to just buy a fresh set of bodywork.
Belts expire 2025 for circuit racing. Needs extinguisher service/replacement.

Good points:
Wishbones and wheels freshly powder coated.
Almost £1000 of replacement nuts, bolts, sphericals and rod ends ready to fit where required; all have been gone over. New sphericals have already been fitted to the wishbones. New brake pads. New caliper seal kits.
New battery, old one included and still usable.
Sump removed and cleaned out; tappet clearances set, fresh sump and cam cover gaskets, fuel and oil filters, oil pump rebuilt, oil pressure line cleaned out, distributor timing set, engine has run before starter shaft issue with good oil pressure. New fuel lines. Oil lines, fittings and dowty seals replaced where required. Bag tank removed, inspected and refitted.
Includes a printed and bound manual with exploded suspension drawings, car setup and running guidelines and a complete service manual for the LD200.

Trailer:
New wheel bearings, breakaway cable, reflectors, electric service and winch service (June 2025)
Enclosed trailer with tyre rack and electric winch
Tows beautifully. Can be moved around single handedly when empty. Side hatch makes strapping and access very easy.

The starter issue has defeated me and I do not have time to finish the car due to other commitments. I have loosely reattached everything to turn it back into a rolling car rather than an intimidating pile of boxes of bits. The majority of the hard (and expensive) work has now be done; this would be a fantastic car for someone who is good on the spanners and the car has all the right parts – the Swifts are still very competitive now. This is the cheapest Formula Ford for sale at the moment with an engine and gearbox.
