1966 Crossle C9S Sports Racing car, Chassis no 26

Description:

1966 Crossle C9S Sports Racing car, Chassis no 26, just out of a long term restoration. FIA HTP papers granted April 2023.

A rare opportunity to purchase an original car, with just five others built in period. Of these, two are in USA, one as original and one with Buick V8 engine, one in UK with HTP papers offering the option to race with Lotus/Ford twin cam or 2.0L BMW engine and one missing in action.

C9S 66 26 is fitted with a new 1600cc Lotus/Ford twin cam engine from Craig Beck Racing, just off dyno run with 180 BHP and 130 Ft lbs torque (all graphs available). Hewland Mk8/9 gearbox LSD with series 5 Gears, fully rebuilt and not run. Girling AR3 brake callipers. Compomotive (Minilite style) wheels 13x8 front, 13x10 rear, with slick tyres. Many new components fitted throughout the restoration.

Currently it’s eligible for HSCC Guards Trophy, CER 2, Historic Endurance, HMV and other European prestige events. To be race ready the car will need new seat belts, a new fire extinguisher system and tyres relevant to chosen series of races plus pre-race preparation.

History:  The first Crossle 9S - Chassis no 27, was built in 1966 with a Buick V8 engine for UK based hillclimb specialist David Harrison. Sadly, David badly damaged the car at Shelsley Walsh and being a busy man, he ordered a new rolling chassis from John Crossle with provision for open-wheel aluminium bodywork and cycle style mudguards. The damaged car was pushed aside, the engine/gearbox, chassis plate and other items being transferred to the new rolling chassis. When David retired from racing the second car was parked up in the same workshop and the doors locked.

Some years later I managed to acquire both, restoring the undamaged car, chassis No 27 to race ready, with much assistance from the Crossle factory and using a Lotus/Ford 1600cc Twin Cam engine. I raced with HSCC in England 1988-1993, winning their 2.0L Group 6 Championship in 1993. We also competed in a few races in Europe - Nurburgring and Diepholz. When I retired from racing the car was sold and is now racing in America with a V8 Buick engine again.

I then set about the restoration of the damaged car with assistance from my son, at that time a budding race engineer. We had the Crossle factory repair the chassis and John Crossle granted us a new chassis plate: C9S 66 26, the factory supplying most of the necessary components, as we were building to the same specification as the other car.

Now, with the restoration completed, the clock of time has caught up with me and the car is for sale.
