This is a BMW rally car that i have been competing with over the last 6 years. The car was originally left hand drive and converted to right hand drive. It has electric power steering, pedal box, 4 pot front and rears, electric water pump and controller, 4 into 1 exhaust manifold, itbs, quaife 15g 6 speed sequential gearbox or i can supply a quaife 15g six speed dog box which is h pattern. It currently is running on 16” wheels with the standard bmw fuel tank. The seats and harnesses are all in date and has a Peltor intercom, map light, led light bar etc. The car always attracts plenty of attention wherever it is being used, people walk past the mint escorts to have a look at the BMW as it is something different. The car has managed top 10 stage times against much more expensive cars. The brakes are fantastic and the engine is amazing.

The engine originally started off as an 1800cc bmw m42 from an early bmw compact. This is the same engine as used in the BMW e30 1800 IS. Shrigley engineering Built the engine and used a BMW diesel crankshaft with custom pistons, rods, solid lifters and new valves etc. the engine is very strong and limited to 7750 RPM. The mapper said it is still climbing at these revs and would benefit from a higher rev limit. The engine has been rallied for the last 9 years with no problems hence why i was happy to leave the limiter at 7750. The engine went back to Shrigley engineering for a full refresh with pistons, valve springs etc and he said everything he removed was in very good condition.

The shell was originally a 320i lhd automatic, it was stripped of every nut and bolt, it was totally gone through and any rust removed. It has a differential strengthening tube in the boot to prevent any torque problems that can sometimes happen (not in this car) The M3 bodykit has been bonded onto the steel quarters keeping the shells strength. the Plastic windows were fitted and a 38mm extensive safety devices homologated roll cage fitted which ties into the rear shock supports. It has an electric heated screen, Bilesteine coilover suspension front and rear. 4 plate LSD with 4.4 crown wheel and pinion in a medium case differential. Hydraulic handbrake, a z4 non assist quick ratio steering rack with a vauxhall corsa adjustable electric power steering column and i am sure many other things i have forgotten about. 

I love this car and it is an appreciating asset. The equivalent escort would cost much more than this asking price. I gave in and bought an escort which was considerably more expensive than the BMW and after a year of owning the escort i still wasn’t sure which car i wanted to keep but i have now decided to keep the escort and sell the BMW.

The car was driven at Bovington rally in 2020 getting 3rd and 4th fastest stage times. we managed a top 10 time at Bovington last year but them pesky R5s and Dariens seem to be multiplying.
