Race Cars
£ 10,000
1972 Ginetta G15
Description:
This is available via online-only auction at Bonhams|Cars Online. The price shown in the lower estimate. The car can be viewed in South Oxfordshire.
The vendor bought the car earlier this year, has had it stored away ever since and, as if often the way with such things, then found himself not using it or doing anything he’d imagined he might be doing with it.
The reason is ergonomics, because it soon became apparent that the car was really better suited to someone rather shorter.
So, it’s back on the market and his loss could turn out to be your gain.
The previous owner bought the car in 1985, kept it for 40 years and, during the 1990s, had it pretty much rebuilt from the ground-up and optimally specified for racing events.
The extent to which he succeeded may be measured by the size and quality of his trophy cabinet, which includes HSCC Historic Roadsports and 1970’s Roadsports class wins among numerous other accolades to be found on shelves buckling under the weight of cups, medals, gongs and rosettes.
Even when it’s filled to the brim with oil, water and other life-giving fluids, this stripped-down GRP race car weighs just 558kg, which is only slightly more than a rainswept cheetah wearing a poncho.
No wonder it is so familiar with the top podium.
It’s also got no accident history, which tends to endorse the racing capabilities of those who piloted it over the years.
At the heart of this proven track machine is a 108hp 1012cc engine that’s been fettled and honed by the much-respected Imp engine whisperer Andy Jones of Shrigley Engineering.
That’s just the beginning of what this car has to offer.

We don’t think we’ve missed anything – and the previous owner clearly didn’t, either.
At the time of writing, we haven’t tried to start the car or get it up and running.
It has not been fired-up since the vendor bought it but we know that the previous owner put fresh fluids in and turned the engine over without starting it.
So, it’s probably advisable that the next owner gives the car a basic service or maybe some very light recommissioning.
