1970 Porsche RSR Race car
Description:
1970 Porsche 3.0L RSR-style Race Car built by (and originally owned by) “901shop.” This car just came back from a complete engine and transmission rebuild from “Dawes Motorsports” in conjunction with 901shop. Zero hours on drivetrain…only dyno time. This car is the BEST OF THE BEST, period. If you know air-cooled Porsche racecars, then you know that 901shop and Dawes Motorsports are the premier shops in the country. In between 901shop’s ownership and the seller’s current ownership, it was supported by KMW Motorsports, which is a well-known IMSA shop. In the words of Peter Dawe “it is rare to find a car where everything was done right.”
This build is beyond compare with the most amazing chassis and cage with everything gusseted. Engine is a 901shop 3.0L air-cooled dual plug engine, which was completely rebuilt by Dawes Motorsports July 2024, with 901shop custom pistons and internals, Pauter custom heads, 12:1 compression, runs on 110 octane fuel, and beautiful tig-welded custom stainless headers and exhaust. Transmission is a 915 completely rebuilt by Dawes Motorsports July 2024 with only the best and strongest components. Every item on the car was checked by Dawes Motorsports. No expense was spared (over $40,000 in receipts in 2024 alone).
In 2023, there was a new Pyrotect Racing cell bladder ($1,595). In 2022, new oil cooler ($1,100), new OMP seat ($1,000), new Sabelt harnesses ($595), new Fire Bottle and electric controller ($450) installed by KMW Motorsports. Plus, new vinyl graphics and powder-coated gold wheels. The car and body is unbelievably straight, with a few stress cracks in the blue paint pointed out in the pictures.

It is a Group 5 car that will run at the top of the field. Prior to rebuild, on Hoosier bias-ply tires the car ran 1:52 at Pitt Race and 2:05 at Watkins.
