Original Graham Hill DFV Engine
Description:
Early and genuine DFV, engine number "DFV 226" for sale.
Cosworth records (now held by Richardsons) confirm DFV 226 was delivered to Embassy Hill on the 18th April 1975 and used by Hill in his GH1 at Monaco on the 11th May 1975. Hence the engine was used in the very last F1 Grand Prix that Graham Hill drove in!
After Monaco DFV 226 was used in the Embassy Hill F1 cars driven by Brise, Jones, etc. for the remainder of 1975.
Cosworth records also confirm DFV 226 was then sold to Hexagon Racing, who used it in their Penske PC3 driven in 1976 and 1977 by Derek Bell.
When Hexagon stopped racing at the end of 1977, DFV 226 was bought by Arrows and used in the FA1 and A1 F1 cars driven by Stommelen, Patrese and Mass in 1978 and 1979.
DFV 226 was seemingly damaged sometime during 1979, as when Arrows retired the A1's after the 1979 Monaco GP, DFV 226 was installed into A1-05, with A1-05 put on display in the Arrows foyer. I purchased A1-05 from Jackie Oliver and in doing so aquired DFV 226. Hence the ownership and provenance of this engine is uniquely known from new through till today.
The block is in great shape and looks like it could be rebuilt and its only the sump that has a small hole - see last photo.
Its amazing that DFV 226 was raced all those years and has powered F1 cars driven by Hill, Jones, Bell, Patrese, Stommelen and Mass - amongst others!
Surely one of the great Graham Hill memoribilia items available today!!!
