Ford Mustang Mk1. 1965.

Description:

We are delighted to offer this lovely 1965 289 Mustang Mk1. This car is in very good order and is ready for use. It would make the perfect "starter" Classic for an introduction to Historic Club Motorsport, Classic Rallying, Road Tours or just as a great Classic Daily Driver.

The car is road registered in the UK and has been modified to include safety features for circuit racing.

Built in San Jose, California in 1965 this car started life as a 289 cubic inch V8 engined car. It had an automatic gearbox from new and drum brakes all round.

The exterior colour is now red and the interior is black/black. Wheels are five spoke alloys, silver rims and gold centres. All windows are glass and the door windows have manual winders.

The interior still has the original dashboard, gauges and controls and retains it's black headlining with original style door cards. Seats are a matching pair of aftermarket bucket style fixed back race seats and are adjustable for length. The rear seats have been removed for clearance for safety items.

Interior modifications include a six point bolt in FIA compliant rollover cage, four point seat harnesses, fully plumbed in and electrically triggered FIA fire extinguisher system, Cartek FIA master switch, Super Pro Rev counter, large oil pressure light and gauges for oil temp and pressure and a water temp gauge fitted in a central pod on the dash. There is a sports steering wheel with a quick release steering wheel boss and a wide angle Longacre rear view mirror.

To comply with current competion regulations the extinguisher will need to be updated and the seats must be in date if the car is to be used for rallying.

There are some papers to show some history with the car which was imported, rust free from the States to the UK in 2015. UK papers and registration are all present and correct. There are some invoices to show improvements and modifications that were undertaken both in the States and the UK.

We had the pleasure of sourcing the car for its current owner from Henry Mann at Alan Mann Racing in March of 2021. Here the car enjoyed further modifications including items such as a new FIA fuel tank and braided fuel lines.

The current owner is now ready to move the car on to its next lucky owner.

Vehicle deatils:

1965 Mk1 Mustang notch back in red with black interior.

Windsor 289 V8 motor with original iron block with uprated high pressure, high volume oil pump fitted. Canton big wing oil sump pan.

Iron cylinder heads (serviced in the UK). Original style exhaust manifolds.

Edelbrock double pumper carburettor on Edelbrock alloy intake.

Electronic ignition, sports coil and uprated ignition leads are fitted.

Alloy coolant radiator and electric cooling fan electronically controlled with over-ride switch inside the cabin.

Exhaust system is a new and bespoke stainless steel unit built by Hayward and Scott here in the UK. It features side exits just ahead of the rear wheels. This system looks and sounds wonderful and it has been specifically built in order to allow the car to be used for Trackdays. We use this car at Thruxton for example which has a low noise limit.

The gearbox is a four speed manual Borg Warner type box.

Hauser Racing Powertrax LSD fitted by Terry Nicholls, April 2018 (to be verified).

Koni Classic adjustable dampers all round (FIA approved). The car is lowered significantly and the wheel arch returns have been subtly dressed for tyre clearance.

Torque Thrust 15 inch diameter by 7 inch wide wheels (FIA approved). These are currently fitted with Firestone TZ300a tyres 205x60xR15 size.

Brakes have been upgraded to include front discs and rear drums to (FIA specification). A new master cylinder has been fitted. New rear shoes just fitted. There is a brake line pressure limiter (bias adjuster) valve fitted in the rear brake line in the cabin.

Roll over protection FIA 6 point bolt in cage. The rear bulkhead is alloy panelled to create a fire wall between the cabin and the boot space. Large alloy FIA fuel tank complete with a Holley fuel pump and presure regulator and Sytec in- line filter are all fitted in the boot space.

Braided fuel lines run through the cabin from the fuel tank to the caburettor.

Original "Bar" style speedo dashboard with extra instrumentation. Longacre wide angle mirror. B&G quick release steering wheel boss.

Steering upgrade to a Borgeson power steering system (power steering pump currently removed).

FIA master swithes inside and out. FIA towing eyes front and rear. FIA rear rain light. FIA rear boot straps and steel front bonnet pins.

The car has been maintained with no expense spared by the current owner and is ready for use. There have been many new parts recently fitted.

There is a small spares package with the car, available through negotiation. This includes a set of brand new FIA approved HiPo headers, a set of rear brake calipers and dics for converstion to discs all round. Also, a second exhaust system which is a "Cherry Bomb" style twin side exit unit. This system is ugly but it sounds amazing.

The car would make for a straightforward conversion to full Pre '66 Appendix K FIA specification. In its current specification it is eligable for a variety of classic club racing championships.
