This RF86 was bought new from Van Diemen and raced by Paul Tracy in the 1986 Canadian Tire F2000 Series with backing from Rothmans cigarettes. Tracy went on to drive for Penske and Newman/Haas amongst others, winning the American Racing Series in 1997 and the CART/Champcar World Series in 2003.  The car was subsequently sold to the US where it ran in various regional championships.

Following storage in California for a number of years, I bought the car in late 2017 and had it shipped back to the UK. Since then it has been the subject of an extensive rebuild and restoration, comprising:
- Zero-mileage Quicksilver engine, rebuilt by Toovey Race Engines in Cannock (Pinto specialist), dyno run, exhaust headers media-blasted & refinished, new stainless collector (JR Race Exhausts) & correct Ford Motorsport silencer
- Chassis stripped down, checked & old repairs rectified by Gerry Wainwright Motorsport, re-powder coated, new laser-cut panels fitted, new foam-filled tank (Alloy Racing Fabrications) with Mocal safety vent valve
- Original Hewland Mk9 gearbox stripped, cleaned & rebuilt with new seals, bearings checked, new splined input sleeve, selector fork & Hewland wing-mount rear cover
- Suspension re-nickel plated or replaced with new URS parts, new bearings & rod-ends, rebuilt rack, new rear sandwich plates
- New AVO adjustable dampers & springs (500lb/in front, 470lb/in rear)
- Braking system stripped, calipers media-blasted and refurbished with new seals, all new braided hoses, master cylinders ultrasonic cleaned and rebuilt with new seals
- New Raceparts brake balance assembly fitted
- New URS clutch slave assembly, master cylinder cleaned & rebuilt with new seals
- New alloy radiators & catch tank (Alloy Race Fabs)
- Raceparts electronic tacho & mechanical water temperature/oil pressure gauges
- New wiring harness throughout including slave battery connector & MSA rear light
- Original Compomotive Turbo wheels, centres media blasted, powder-coated gold, rebuilt/resealed
- Original front & rear wings (lower rear reskinned), new endplates 
- Original ‘Van Diemen’ Momo steering wheel
- All new lightweight URS bodywork in original Oxford Blue as per original spec, from Van Diemen factory moulds
- - New Sparco FIA 8853-2016 harness
