Description:
MUST GO ASAP!! Price reduced as we need the space and money for a new project. Cheapest ready to go HF3 on the market at the moment.
Chassis number 99 was originally owned by Bourg Skold and raced in F3 by Jonas Quanstrom between 1967-70, mostly in Sweden. Although leaving the factory as a Mk 10, the Merlyn had all the works upgrades available to bring it up to Mk 14 specification during this time (all of which has been confirmed with documentation from Merlyn).
In the early 1970s a subsequent owner took the car apart and never put it back together again, and over 40 years later the Merlyn was offered for sale as a project. Ewen Sergison purchased it in Sweden in May 2018. He took the chassis to Clive Hayward, who added a roll hoop, strengthened and fully checked the frame. The car, engine and gearbox were then fully rebuilt in early 2019, with every part either refurbished or replaced.
The Merlyn was invited to Goodwood 77th Members Meeting in April 2019, but being not quite finished went to the event on display only. During the 2019 and 2020 seasons Ewen raced and developed the car, including a win at Brands Hatch in the first round of the 2020 Historic Formula 3 championship. The Merlyn was again invited to Goodwood for the 79th Members Meeting where Rachel Sergison raced it.
This lovely example is offered for sale with a set of dry tyres which are two races old and a set of wets which have only been used for one very wet 20-minute race. The spares package includes a brand new windscreen, a rear body section and an open tailpipe for unsilenced events. Belts and fire extinguisher are in date.
The engine has had under 2 hours of total running time since the last rebuild.
