William I'Anson Ltd are excited to announce for sale The Ex – Sir Stirling Moss, Innes Ireland, Henry Taylor, Masten Gregory, Cliff Allison, U.D.T Laystall 1961 Lotus-Climax 18/21.
One of only three Lotus 18 supplied new to the highly accomplished U.D.T Laystall Team, where it was raced initially as a standard Lotus 18 before being upgraded to 18/21 specification part way through the 1961 season.
Driven throughout the 1961 and 1962 seasons for U.D.T. by Henry Taylor, Sir Stirling Moss, Innes Ireland and Masten Gregory. This car achieved notable success with a convincing victory in the 1961 Danish Grand Prix by Sir Stirling Moss, including 3rd in the 1962 Glover Trophy at Goodwood for Innes Ireland and 8th in the 1961 Monaco Grand Prix for Cliff Allison.
Used in the British Hillclimb Championship from 1964 - 1966 before later being restored for renown historic racer Anthony Mayman.
In more recent years it has been a regular feature at both Goodwood, the Monaco Historic Grand Prix and of course the ever popular HGPCA. Eligible to run with either a 2.5-litre or 1.5-litre FPF engine as it currently runs, having run both in period.
Maintained by the capable hands of IN Racing throughout its current eight years of ownership, it has had an extraordinary record of reliability. Accompanied by a comprehensive history file of invoices, period pictures, spares package and FIA HTP’s valid to 2034.
Not many cars get to boast Grand Prix race winning history in the hands of Sir Stirling Moss.
