Description:

-DEPOSIT TAKEN -

The Austin Healey 100/6 and 3000 models are remarkable vehicles, representing the 6-cylinder versions of the original Austin Healey 100. These models extended the wheelbase to accommodate the powerful six-cylinder engine. The 100/6, introduced in 1956, had a 2639cc 100bhp engine, but it lacked the punch of the 100 due to carburation issues and additional weight.

In 1959, the 3000 model was launched, quickly becoming a global success, especially in America. It featured an upgraded 2912cc 124bhp engine and the addition of front disc brakes. Production continued until 1967. Many of these cars were used in period as weekend race and rally cars, with some transformed into dedicated race and rally cars aiming to replicate the successes of the famous works race and rally cars. These vehicles consistently exceeded expectations, often outperforming more expensive machinery.

This particular 1962 3000 MKII BN7, originally exported to New York in March 1962, was re-imported in 1988/89 by John Chatham. Converted to right-hand drive, it was transformed into a full FIA specification race car following the example of the ex-Le Mans car 'DD 300'. In 1990, it was part of the "Team Healey" that triumphed in the UK-USA Healey Challenge, winning races at Lime Rock, Watkins Glen, Laguna Seca, Riverside, Mid Ohio, and Blackhawk Farm.

After returning from the USA, the car underwent a major refurbishment by Rawles Classic Healeys, including the installation of a Rawles Motorsport race engine. The vehicle continued to race successfully until 2006, participating in the UK Austin Healey Championship and various European events. Since then, it has been utilised as a fast road and track day car.

Under its original registration which was believed to be 'URX 10', unfortunately not now available, it is seen in pictures alongside '767 KNX', one of the famous Sebring works cars. The car also appears in John Chatham's book – Mr Big Healey – The Official Biography of John Chatham.

Restored by John Chatham Cars to the specification of the famous 'DD 300' works race car, this BN7 model boasts FIA HTP valid until 31/12/2025. The engine, rebuilt by Woolmer Classic Engineering Ltd to FIA specifications in 2020, produces approximately 270bhp at the flywheel meaning this is one seriously fast Austin Healey. The car features a straight-cut close-ratio gearbox with competition overdrive, limited-slip differential, and all-alloy bodywork with a lightweight works-style hard top.

Recent upgrades include a Fosseway brake kit, new windscreen, headlight units, brake pads, and tires. The car is eligible for prestigious historic race series, including Masters Gentlemen Drivers, Motor Racing Legends Pre ’63 GT, GT & Sports Car Cup, and Equipe Classic Racing Pre’63 & Libre. It has a rich history, having competed in high-profile events such as the Silverstone Classic, Donington Historic, Portimão, and Spa Francorchamps.

Accompanied by a comprehensive history file and an extensive spare parts list, including original seats, floor mat, half shafts, spare wheel spinners, wing mirrors, brake callipers, and more, this Austin Healey 3000 MKII BN7 FIA Race Car presents a unique opportunity to acquire a competitive and highly eligible historic race car in excellent condition, prepared for the 2024 season, with recent expenditures totalling £10,000.

Available now for viewing and demonstration at our Hertfordshire showrooms.
