Description:
BMW 1800 TI (TISA) 1965 – CHASSIS NO 983615
It is understood that the car was originally supplied to a customer in Italy.
By 1994/95 the car was in Germany where it was fully restored and rebuilt from a bare metal shell as a race car for Hans-Josef Bierman of Paderborn. The record file has extensive photographs and documents of the rebuild and a copy of the HTP passport H1267/95 issued. Mr Bierman raced the car and records of his P7 overall and 2nd in class at the Oldtimer Festival, Nurburgring 2003 are on file.
A few years later, the car was acquired by well-known UK historic racers Graham and Olly Bryant. Laranca Race Engineering run by Richard Shaw prepared the car and obtained a new HTP passport GB6510 in 2007. File records show the Bryants competing at Dijon, Monza and the Silverstone Classic amongst other circuits that year.
In 2013 the car was purchased through Laranca by Richard Solomons who commissioned a full rebuild to the latest Laranca specification. Richard Shaw built the car as a sister to his own car that he raced with Jackie Oliver. The work was comprehensive and beautifully engineered. The car was a front runner. Richard raced the car with his friend and champion racing driver Andy Priaulx. They achieved considerable success and there are many photographs and lap charts documenting their races at the Silverstone Classic (P4) and at Goodwood in the St Marys Trophy (P8) and Whitmore Cup.
The car was maintained by Laranca Engineering throughout regardless of cost. A new HTP passport GB10361 was obtained in 2016 and remains current until 31.12.2026. For the next few years the car was stored by Laranca as the owner was unable to race due to business commitments. Then there was the disruption of the covid pandemic and the car was put up for sale.
The current owner purchased the car in 2021 when it was returned to Laranca for an engine refresh to the latest specification (dyno sheet on file). The car joined his collection of Lotus. He raced the car in the disrupted 2021/22 season. However, early in 2023 and rather unexpectedly, he realised an ambition by acquiring a 1973 Porsche 911 2.8 RSR. The BMW is thus for sale.
The car has had a full front to rear refresh by Retro Engineering, this included a new engine to current Fia regulations and a gearbox refresh.
The car will be supplied ready to race with all date critical components replaced or in date. Also the car can be tailored to any individual Championship to ensure maximum potential.
This car is eligable for: Goodwood, HSCC, HRDC, Masters, MRL, New Peter Auto Classic Touring Challenge and numerous other European Championships.
