Chassis 023: James Thompson 1995 RML Vauxhall Sport Works car
Previously offered for sale as a pair, however only #023 now available.
Both cars have exceptionally low mileage. Chassis 022 has been in dry storage since 1998 and unraced, having competed in BTCC 1995, and ATCC 1996-1998, and then recently re-commissioned for demonstration runs.
Chassis 023 was used in the latter part of 1995 BTCC, and selected rounds of ATCC in 1997, with very limited outings since returning to the UK, notably Silverstone Classic in 2012 and Goodwood in 2008.
Chassis 022 & 023 were recently showcased at the Vaux Valves event at Donington Park in 2023 including 023 taking part in the demonstration run. #022 took part in demonstration runs at Brands Hatch in 2024.
History of the cars:
Vauxhall has long been a supporter of the British Touring Car Championship and, during the 2-litre era, its cars have enjoyed more race victories than any other manufacturer.
The RML Vauxhall Sport Cavaliers won the Teams Championship in 1995 season with Cleland taking the Drivers championship after a hard fought battle with Alain Menu
The cars were built and raced by Ray Mallock’s company RML in 1995 – the first year that extended aero was allowed, with the rear wing and front splitter.
The two works cars 022 & 023 were originally sold to Jim Richards and shipped to Australia and then raced successfully in the Australian Touring Car Championship. They were subsequently sold to Bob Tweedie who continued in the ATCC until 1998. Mike Newton purchased the cars, along with the Briggs (017) and Allam (019) 1994 cars in which Mike had also competed in Australia in 1998 and 1999, returning them to the UK in 2000.
