This is now SOLD. Search for similar items.

Description:

KEY FACTS

  • An impressive recreation of the prototype 87P F1 car, built up using a genuine March Engineering 87B F3000 chassis.
  • It has been in the current ownership for the last 15 years, and has been treated to some restoration work.
  • This 87P tribute is powered by a 3.0-litre Cosworth V8 without internals, coupled to a six-speed March Engineering transmission casing.
  • The car is offered as a rolling chassis, which could conceivably have a working engine fitted in the future, or simply used as an attention-grabbing show car.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • The real prototype 87P was based upon a March 86B F3000 chassis, so in using a genuine 87B chassis, this recreation pays faithful tribute to the original.
  • The chassis of this car was initially used through the 1987 F3000 Championship by the First Racing team, piloted by Italian driver Lamberto Leoni.
  • The chassis plate is the original as is the carbon monocoque and suspension.
  • The scrutineering sticker is also visible near the roll bar as a historical detail.
  • At the rear, the engine and transaxle are open to the elements, while the nose and cockpit are clothed in lightweight bodywork incorporating carbon-Kevlar and fibreglass materials, finished in the iconic Aquamarine Blue colour of the Leyton House property brand.
  • The car correctly has the number ‘16’ emblazoned within the livery, reflecting the real prototype’s only competition entry at the 1987 Brazilian Grand Prix, where it went through testing and qualifying but withdrew prior to the race due to failure of the Cosworth DFZ engine.
  • It rides on six-spoke alloy wheels, wrapped in Avon race tyres. The seller understands that the brakes, shock absorbers, radiators, dashboard and steering wheel are faithful to those used on the real vehicle.
  • In the cockpit there is a shaped metal seat, TRW Sabelt four-point racing harnesses, an Italvolanti steering wheel, and a simple three-gauge instrument cluster.

CONDITION

  • Sold as a rolling race chassis and engine without internals, this 87P Recreation is in good order, and there is no known accident damage to the chassis or body. The floor and the rear wing are not original to the car.
  • Its repainted Aquamarine Blue finish is in good condition, and it is well documented in the photo gallery. There is minor wear around areas such as the wing mirror casings.
  • In line with its age, there are some hairline cracks in the clear plastic ‘aero’ screen, and minor marks to the internal unpainted carbon panelling, as well as the metal seat.
  • As it is a non-running show car, the internal condition of the mechanical components cannot be warranted, though there are no reported issues.

SUMMARY

This March 87P F1 Recreation is an eye-catching historic show car, which has been built up using a genuine 87B chassis that was raced in the 1987 FIA F3000 Championship. An impressive tribute to the prototype seen just once at the Brazilian Grand Prix in the same year, this Recreation would be a great addition to any motorsport-themed collection
