KEY FACTS
- This Hillman Minx is a storied, race-prepared example of the charming classic British saloon, offered with an impressive racing history.
- Under the bonnet sits an upgraded 1.6-litre naturally aspirated inline-four, fed by twin Weber carburettors, now understood to produce up to 97bhp and driving the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission.
- This Minx was first registered in March 1957, and has been with the seller for two years.
- This example was originally prepared for competition use by CS Racing of Bosham to take part in the 2006 Goodwood Revival, and boasts impressive racing provenance having been a consistent ‘Top 10’ runner during the HRDC (Historic Racing Drivers Club) Touring Greats series during the 2012, 2013, and 2014 seasons.
- This Minx also finished 6th overall in the 2015 Goodwood Members’ Meeting Sopwith Cup, and took part in the 2018 Goodwood Revival Jack Sears Memorial Trophy.
EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
- This Minx is finished in a handsome shade of white with contrasting red side stripes, and number 588 racing roundels.
- Inside, the partially stripped-out cabin features red leather upholstery with white seat piping, as well as a black cloth-trimmed Ridgard bucket seat with silver leatherette accents.
- It rides on a set of 14-inch painted-steel wheels, shod in Dunlop Racing tyres.
- Externally, this example features kill switches, leather bonnet and boot lid straps, and headlamp tape.
- Inside, the cabin has been upgraded with a plumbed-in fire extinguisher system, a roll cage, an instrument pod with rev-counter, a black leather-trimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel, a kill switch, and a Luke six-point harness.
- The 1.6-litre inline-four engine has been upgraded with a Holbay cylinder head and camshaft, a tubular exhaust manifold, an oil cooler, an oversized dynamo pulley, a high-torque starter motor, and a competition clutch with a lightweight alloy flywheel.
- Other notable upgrades include a Rae Davis Racing ‘A’ frame, RDR spring bushes, RDR 2-inch lowering blocks, a Rootes Competitions Department-specification rear axle breather and baffles, lowered front suspension, a stiffer front anti-roll bar, Spax adjustable dampers, front disc brakes, larger Sunbeam rear brake drums, competition brake pads/linings, and a brake bias valve.
- The car comes with an extensive racing history folder, and an original owner’s handbook.
