We are delighted to exclusively offer to market the carbon fibre “bonnet” panel from XP2, the second prototype McLaren F1 road car. This unique piece is hand signed and dated by the genius creator of the F1, the legendary Gordon Murray and is accompanied by authentication from Derek Waeland, Production Director as well as confirmation from McLaren confirming that the piece is unencumbered.

XP2 was the second of five prototype McLaren F1s completed with the XP chassis prefix. It was ultimately sacrificed as a crash test mule to gain type approval and this panel was removed before that test at MIRA (being non-structural).
The bright blue F1 was delivered to the Motor Industry Research Association in Warwickshire during the second week of December 1993. Upon arrival, XP2 was subjected to the mandatory 30mph crash test which it passed with ease: both doors remained fully operational and damage was light enough that the car could have been driven away.

XP2 was the first ever road car with a carbonfibre chassis to be crash tested. Thanks to the F1’s intricate front impact structure, the monocoque itself was completely undamaged.

This panel still has its “prototype” production sticker to the rear and the intricate carbon fibre is undamaged. Being a 30 year old development piece, there.are scratches through the blue paint and scratches and weathering across the item. The type and extent of which is depicted in the images
