Triumph TR2 Period race car
Description:
PDU 222 is a 1954 long door TR2 that was exported to Australia and raced from new by Doug Whiteford who was Australia's leading grand prix racer at the time. He won the support race to the 1955 Australian Grand Prix in the car (then registered 706) and went on the compete in the main race in his Talbot Lago. The car was then raced during the 1950s in Australia before being converted into a road car in the 1960s.
The current owner brought the car back to the UK in 2007 specifically to compete in the Le Mans Classic the following year. The car won the Index of Performance in Plateau 2 and repeated the feat in 2012. Since then PDU 222 (a registration number deliberately chosen to evoke the works TR2 cars PDU 20, 21 and 22) has been raced in the Woodcote Trophy, the Aston Martin Owners Club 50s series and FISCAR. It would be a low cost option for joining the wonderful Griffiths Haig grid.
The car is in good condition but wears its race patina with pride. The paint work is not pristine, but that rather adds to its appeal as a period racer. The engine is an all steel TR Enterprises unit which pulls well. As a drum braked car the driving experience is involving to say the least.
There are some spares which come with the car including another set of wheels and tyres, spare hubs etc.
