This is now SOLD. Search for similar items.
Description:
Set up for CSCC Swinging Sixties by a historic restorer (having previously been owned and raced by Alan Minshaw) who only had one outing in it after an all steel full race Craig Beck engine rebuild (dyno chart available). In addition to the Craig Beck engine, the car boasts Quaife straight cut gears, Tran-X LSD, full Safety Devices roll cage including side and footwell intrusion bars, Tillett race seat and large capacity aluminium radiator. It has a Lotus chassis and various components from race Elan guru Tony Thompson including driveshafts, stub axles, various suspension components including Koni adjustable rear shocks. It comes with eight Minilite wheels. The harness is in date and a new plumbed in fire extinguisher was fitted in 2022.
I bought the car to race in the CSCC ‘Swinging Sixties’ series, for which it is ideal and would be a front runner, but a combination of surgery in 2022 and a bereavement have led to a change of plans.
Brief history: Originally sold to dealer Clarkes Garage (Narborough) Ltd. in July 1968. After going through a number of owners (believed to be 4), it ended up with a Richard Ward in 1999 or thereabouts. Richard Ward was a prominent racer of Elans in modsports and other classes in the late 1990s. It appears that he and his wife Barbara relocated to Cyprus (subsequently to Greece itself) in 2002, taking the Elan with them. It was registered to Barbara Ward with the Greek number HTT 442 and gained a Historic Vehicle Identity Form (070GR03), issued by the Automobile and Touring Club of Greece (ELPA) in September 2003 and has a FIVA identity card dated May 2003.
Mr Ward and his wife Barbara used the car in a number of races and historic / classic rallies. Following Mr Ward’s death, his widow sold the car. It has been re-registered at the DVLA with its original registration number of OUT 890G
