Description:
1965 MGB 1800 Roadster
Since being rebuilt as a race car in 2013/4 this MGB has raced just 10 times – all between 2015 and 2018, all in HSCC Historic Road Sports.
Race preparation included:
1 Replacement of full wiring harness
2 All suspension and brake system parts renewed.
3 New foam filled fuel tank – standard shape/size/position.
4 Facet Red Top fuel pump, sited in the boot.
5 All brake/fuel lines replaced.
6 All brake and fuel hoses replaced with Goodyear braided hoses.
7 Rear brake cylinders replaced with larger diameter Cooper spec.
8 Rear axle is period Banjo type.
9 Springs all 1 inch lower, front springs 600lb, rear standard lbs.
10 Dampers 25% to 30% stiffer.
11 Front anti-roll bars 3/4'' inch and 7/8'', (3/4'' inch fitted).
12 Prop shaft replaced with new one.
13 Overdrive retained but rebuilt to full race spec by O/D Spares.
14 Gearbox MGB 3-sychro with original type helical cut C/R gear set.
15 Clutch is race type single plate.
Engine was last rebuilt by RW Racing Services in late 2018, since when the car has not raced. The full engine spec includes parts as follows: billet steel crankshaft, uprated front crankshaft damper; Saenz steel con rods; 719 SPB camshaft, cam followers, cam bearings; big end and main bearings; ARP crank bolt and washer kit, gaskets. Existing JE forged pistons fitted at the previous engine build have done just two races and were retained.
On twin SU HS6 carburettors the maximum power from the rebuilt engine is now 150 bhp. On the single Weber 45 currently fitted the power is 160 bhp.
Car comes with some useful spares including three sets of wheels, new front discs, suspension parts including new front race spec. shocks, front and rear springs.
