Description:
Lotus 23b
Supplied direct from the factory to Walter Schatz of Austria for Hill Climbing.
- First used competitively in August 1963 in the Swiss Mountain hill climb at Ollon-Villars followed by Mount Ventoux.
- In the 1964 season it competed in various European events, before being sold to Karl Webber, a serving officer with the US forces stationed in Germany.
- In 1967 the car was shipped to the USA and competed in various events at Watkins Glen and Bridgehampton.
- The car subsequently passed to Seattle resident Bob Bentley who rebuilt it, improved the performance and brought it to 23b specification.
- The car competed at Road Atlanta between 1971 and 1975.
- This car was repatriated to the UK in 1988 as part of a collection, and prepared and run occasionally in sprints.
- Puchased from the family of the late owner by me in 2018 and David Abbott was commissioned to carry out a comprehensive nut and bolt restoration.
- New Richardson engine was supplied and fitted, and the drive train overhauled as part of the restoration in 2020.
- In 2022 the car was entered in the full HSCC 'Guards Trophy' series driven by Peter de la Roche resulting in First in Class and the Overall Championship Winner 2022.
- Detailed historical documentation from 1963 to include original factory build, competition results, previous HTP, current HTP (valid to 31/12/2030).
- Presented in superb condition in the original period livery, with HANS belts (to 2027) and extinguisher (to 2024).
- A stunning, fast and competitive car, eligible and ready to compete in the HSCC Guards Trophy in 2023.
- Car is currently in Sanbach where viewing is positively encouraged.
