This is a very clean and fully rebuilt Mazda MX5 built to BRSCC and 750mc regs. It is an incredibly well-presented car and stands out as a prime example of an enthusiast’s car.
It has had everything done:
The body was dipped and stripped, then fully repainted by Finishline U.K. Ltd before a comprehensive rebuild that included:
- rebuilt differential
- refreshed gearbox
- full replacement race spec wiring loom (we saved kilos of weight on this alone)
- new engine built by Basset Down Balancing - currently 0 hours - makes 127.1hp on the dyno (timing would allow for more) with a really nice amount of bottom end torque. This is inline with the 750mc / 2023 BRSCC technical regs (to the best of my understanding)
- brand new fuel pump and balanced fuel injectors / new fuel filter and lines checked
- all wishbones and underbody parts shot-blasted and powder coated
- new consumable parts throughout such as bushes, discs, calipers (rebuilt)
- custom exhaust system
- a freshly refurbished “Barra” differential
The exhaust system was built new at rebuild. The manifold is modified to “race spec.” and compliant with the regulations for BRSCC and 750MC regulations as well as the all new MSVR series (new for 2023).
Aside from all underbody fittings being checked, shotblasted and re-painted, brand-new wheel bearings were fitted all round.
Brand new bushing throughout the suspension system with upgraded diff mount bushes and race specification engine mounts.
The prop shaft was rebuilt professionally with new UJ joints.
One set of spare wheels is fitted with Avon tyres, the other spare wheels with Hankooks. These are perfect for testing but not the “tagged” type; which are on the Orange set currently fitted to the car.
Seats, belts and extinguisher (all new when rebuilt) are up to date, the Gaz Gold shocks installed have seen two races since their last service.
It comes with a comprehensive spares package including:
- second set of newly serviced Gaz Gold dampers
- spare differential rebuilt by Allgears
- new Mintex pad set front and rear
- a white race awning (pictured)
- Two extra sets of lite ROTA wheels - a white set and a black set.
The spare set of Gaz Gold dampers have also just been serviced and are built up and ready to go with alternative springs. The spare dampers have the coil springs attached (and are adjusted for ride height and corner weight) and both front and rear spring dampers have the top mounts attached. ie, complete units Obviously this allows for quick spring rate changes. Ideal for testing.
The data logging system is an Aim EVO 4s with a GS dash. This provides brake pressure, engine speed, GPS speed, lap deltas, and all of the usual real-time data logging features that are needed for a competitive racer to analyze his or her performance. This is particularly ideal for driver coaching.
This is easily one of the nicest race MX5s available in the UK - it's basically a brand-new car with a well thought through set of setup tweaks. In the right hands it is a championship winning car, I've had some great results with it, but I'm no spring chicken and on that note, I've moved to historic racing.
It's priced appropriately, given the time and investment put in to actually build a first class example of an MX5. If you want to build one to this spec, starting from a standard racing mx5, expect to spend in the region of £40k. There may be cheaper cars, but they'll need far more effort and expense to get them running at the front of the grid.
On that note this acquisition would suit a serious and competitive driver who wants to hit the ground running in a top car. If you don't want the hassle of unpicking the many problems associated with heavily used / previously damaged MX5s, and you want something that has a good baseline setup on it, this is for you.
£20,000 for the full package, in the first instance, contact me and I will arrange viewings for serious buyers at its current location.
A reluctant sale, but it will be a pleasure to see it driven in anger on the 2023 grid. More photos in the link provided. Please contact me by email/message in the first instance - thank you!
