This car was originally professionally built and prepared by Mills Garage in Duns, who were involved with the late Richard Burns. The engine was originally built by Shenpar who were well known for
their Peugeot engines. The car was then bought and collected direct from Mills Garage by the famous Grand Prix motor bike collector Chris Wilson, and competed in various disciplines including rallying with some success against much more powerful cars. I acquired the car in 2018 and used it for Hillclimbs and Trackdays, the previous owner had used it for Rallycross events and was apparently quite successful at LydenHill The car would also be eligible for hot hatch championships
The engine has been rebuilt
The block and head were restored to their original finish having been vapour blasted The pistons are 0.5mm oversized Cosworth type units, the crank was lightened and balanced with matching lighter flywheel and competition 4 puck clutch pack. Fully baffled sump, and competition spec big end and main bearings. Full Mocal oil cooler set up. The head is fully ported, polished with oversized valves and full completion spec Piper cam. Carburation is via twin 48 Webbers which have just been rebuilt and vapour cleaned and the exhaust is a full equal length 4 branch manifold and new custom made stainless steel exhaust system.
Transmission
Original 5 speed gearbox fitted with Quaife LSD and 4:6 CWP and rebuilt by the previous owner, rose jointed gear linkage, competition lightweight 4 puck clutch. (Spare brand new plate incl.)
Shell
Originally professionally built by Mills Garage in Duns. Fully stitch welded and strengthed through out. New Polycarbonate side windows front and rear, and a new windscreen just fitted New Spoox strut top so the camber and Castor angles can be set accordingly, with new OMP top and lower strut braces New 20 litre completion spec “Jazz” fuel cell, new high flow Facet fuel pump, Original Sparco 2000 competition seat with FIA spec TRS 6 point 3” safety harness, but will be out of date by the end of 2022 brand new 4.25 litre mechanical plumbed in fire eater system, original oil pressure and water temperature gauges. Internally fitted battery in the correct battery box.
Autoguage rev counter with inbuilt adjustable rev limiter.
Brakes
Fully adjustable bias pedal box assembly with bias pedal adjuster, AP front and rear master cylinders. Front Willwood 4 pot brake calipers, discs and pads. Rear calipers are standard original Peugeot with new discs and competition pads. Stainless braided and copper “retro” type brake lines throughout. Modified original hand brake mechanism mounted on AP hydraulic master cylinder for the “fly off” rear brake system.
Wheels and Tyres
The original 309 Alloys are shod with Khumo Ecsta semi slick tyres which are pretty sticky and work well in wet and dry conditions and there is plenty tread left on all tyres, there are also 2 spare wheels
