Footnotes

Bonhams is delighted to offer this beautiful example of a knowledgeably restored and race-ready XK150 SE with an impressive racing history. Originally finished in Olive Green with matching leather upholstery, this manual transmission XK150 was first registered as 'JYO 1' on 10th April 1959 to Mrs Florence Collinge of Blackburn. Re-registered as '345 HAJ' some six years later when she sold it to Gordon Armstrong (Hull) Ltd, the Jaguar then passed to Donald Forster of Hurworth before passing to the fourth owner, Charles Heywood, in September 1966. During their ownership, and as a result of a lack of use, the car was taken off the road. In the subsequent years the car was very slowly restored, but never completed, finally being offered for sale in 2012 and purchased by the previous owner.

It was not until late 2014 that the previous owner started restoration with the aim of creating a competitive race-prepared XK that would be suitable for the incredible array of historic events for which the XK150 is eligible. The car was completely stripped back, repainted to its original Olive Green colour and rebuilt with completely new components that are compatible with the XK Challenge regulations. '345 HAJ' would then go on to compete in the 2015 XK challenge and would place 1st in class on three occasions and 2nd in class three times. In early 2016 the XK was altered to Appendix K specification which allowed it to compete in the Jaguar Heritage Challenge where it would again place 1st in class. It would also place 2nd in class in the 2016 XK Challenge. This XK150S has a highly creditable race history with eight podium finishes out of eight meetings. Its technical specifications are as follows:

3.8-litre cylinder block, line bored and honed to +0.040"
Triple 2" SU carburettors
Close-ratio XK150
Adjustable brake pedal box with twin Girling master cylinders
Aluminium fuel tank by Classic Autos, powder coated black and fitted with dipstick facility

Over the previous four years, the car has been subjected to substantial works and maintenance in the hands of renowned Jaguar and XK specialists, CKL Developments. Invoices are on file totalling circa £158,000 worth of work and preparation during this period and are testament to the cars condition today.

Despite now being in 3.8-litre FIA specification, the original matching numbers 3.4-litre engine and 4-speed moss gearbox accompany the car.

A potential winner in the right hands and eligible for prestigious events such as The Goodwood Revival, Motor Racing Legends, Tour Auto, Modena Cento Ore, Peter Auto Fifties Legends and HRDC, the car is offered with its original buff logbook and FIA HTP valid until 31st December 2027.

Estimate £70,000 - £90,000
