Description:
Chassis no M6440 one the of the legendary 19 monos is currently being auctioned at Lloyd's auctions Gold Coast Australia finishing on the 30th October.
The design of the Mono commenced in Adelaide Australia in 1962 by Garry Cooper who was 26 years old and inspired by aircraft technology to build a 1500cc Ford Cortina engined monocoque f2 car. This was prior to the appearance of the first Monocoque f1 car, the Lotus 25. Testing was done in 63 and the 1st mono prototype chassis no M6441 was revealed in 64. Although M6440 is chassis No1 it was completed after but other than the Lotus monocoques f1 type 25's, junior's type 27 and the 1964 Ferrari F1 158, this is one of the earliest Monocoques in the world. An astonishing legacy from a little race car manufacturer in Adelaide.
