Year Built:1998

Engine size : 1800cc

Body built in 1998 and given a TF body kit update in 2002. In March 2007 it had 85% of all body panels replaced and car resprayed.

Bonnet and Engine bay cover are fibreglass to reduce weight

Is an original MGF Cup car built in 1998 and raced in the MGF Cup, which was a TOCA support series in 1998, 99 and 2000

This was never a road car and, as with all MGF Cup cars, was built from a kit supplied direct from MG Sport & Racing. The kit alone was £24,000 in 1998

The car is open top, white, with blue MG decals (which you can easily remove)

It is a 2 door steel monocoque seam welded and strengthened for improved rigidity. It has also been fitted with an integral roll cage. It has a plumbed in fire extinguisher system fitted (though the extinguisher itself was removed for hill climb races. It has a 5 point harness fitted which will need to be replaced as it has now run to the end of its dated life.

It has a 195bhp VHPD K-series engine which is alloy, four cylinders and overhead cam. The engines were developed especially for racing by Janspeed with 4 throttle bodies, steel con rods, crankshaft and forged pistons. It has a dry sump lubrication system and I used Mobil 1 race oil. Original ECU is fitted

The gear box is a close ratio five speed sealed type unit with straight cut gears and AP Racing clutch.

The suspension is an independent hydrogas front and rear system with double wishbones and uprated hydrogas units. The brakes are full race AP racing discs with driver adjustable bias and EBC brake pads


Wheels are 16 inch alloys. A set of 4 Avon slicks and a set of 4 Dunlop wets are each on a set of wheels and there is a spare set of 16 inch alloys for additional tyres (spare wets/slicks or a set of intermediates) – 12 wheels, 8 tyres.

The car was serviced with new oil prior to each race or hill climb.

The toe-in is adjustable for full track racing or for hill climbs,

Internal door card panels and dashboard has been removed to improve weight. VIN plate has been retained

Wing mirrors have been removed (but are included, as is the fire extinguisher canister). The cat has been removed and replaced by a straight through, but the cat is also included.

The car will need a full service, new harness (the old one is now out of date), new clutch cable and, if set to full race set up, will need the fire extinguisher to be refilled, re-certified and refitted (a simple task).

I bought the car at the end of the 2008 race season and the car was last used on hill climbs about 4 years ago. I now have medical probolems, have moved to a smaller house and no longer have the space for the car. The car is currently stored and turns over but does not start - suspect minor ignition problem due to 4 years in storage

Due to minor work needed, I am selling it for only £4,950

Also available is a Brian James Sprint Shuttle fully enclosed fibreglass covered trailer. This is the top of the range model with electric winch (as well as a separate manual winch) hydraulic tilting bed and tyre rack.

This is for sale for £5,950 and preference will be given to the buyer of the MGF/TF race car.

The trailer will not be sold separately until after the car is sold
