Description:

Incredibly clean and well-preserved 1987 Giugiaro Esprit in near-mint, original condition.  This LHD car has a rare HC (high-compression) engine, which is also in original condition.   Originally sold as new in Germany, I purchased the car in Stuttgart in 2009.  It is certainly one of the best Giugiaro Esprits in Europe.

Regarded as the best of the normally-aspirated, Georgette Giugiaro styled Lotus Esprits, the S3 was introduced in 1981. Visually updated with color coded front spoiler, side skirts, air scoops etc., this model also had a new steering wheel, seats and instruments. Derived from the Essex Turbo Esprit, its galvanised backbone chassis featured all-round independent suspension, rack-and-pinion steering and four-wheel disc brakes. Light and agile in the best Lotus tradition, the S3 was powered by a mid-mounted 2174cc DOHC four-cylinder engine with a five-speed manual transmission.

The updated HC model was introduced in early 1987 and boasted 179 bhp, 163 lb.ft. thanks to an improved cooling system. The newcomer was capable of 0-60 in 6.5 seconds and 138 mph top speed. Further enhancements were a larger capacity battery, full engine / transmission under trays and adjustable rake seats. The short-lived HC was the last of the Giugiaro Esprits and was superseded by the X180 Esprit in October 1987 making this model a prized collectors piece. 

Never raced and accident-free, the car is mechanically and electrically sound, and runs beautifully.  The car has always been stored in a heated garage and not driven in the rain nor the winter months.  The car comes with the original manual and my complete service history.
