THE ALFA ROMEO GTA JUNIOR 1300 AUTODELTA CAR- 105-59 TYPE
Construction year 1970- chassis n. 776016 with an original license plate and registration certificate
The GTAJ 776016 is the latest car, of the four ones built, made in 1970. It has met the passions of the three lucky owners who have improved the car.
The first owner, who had it from 1970 to 1976, was Mr. Mario Litrico, a professional driver who was able to achieve very high level performances. He was hired by AUTODELTA to take part in the “ Trofeo dell’Avvenire” in 1974 and had as co-drivers Jean Claud Andruet , Spartaco Dini and Walter Donà.
The GTAJ a standard car, under his care, was developed by AUTODELTA ( the official racing department of Alfa Romeo) in 1971 and then re-registered by the same as a unique specimen as you can see from its registration certificate so that it can circulate on common roads using the 8”x 13” wheels, big mudguards, and fibreglass doors and front and rear bonnets.
In 1971 it won the “ Trofeo della Montagna” the Italian National Championship, group 2. In 1974, it won the speed on track Italian Championship, in the1300 class, ranking the second car of its class and it has also set up records on the Pergusa, Monza, Vallelunga and Casale Monferrato circuits.
From 1970 to 1976, the car took part in 54 races, obtaining two overall victories ( at Casale Monferrato and Monza), 19 victories in the group 2, reaching 44 victories on the whole.
The second owner, Mr. Giuseppe Fortunato, took over in 1976 and owned the car until 1978. He competed in nine races and achieved a group 5 overall victory and 3 class victories.
The third and current owner is Mr. Salvatore Spinelli a passionate pilot and currently in action. He has won six national titles with Alfa Romeo.
Over 40 years of races he has taken part in 280 competitions driving various Alfa Romeo cars. From 1979 to 1981 he drove the GTAJ in 19 races winning 13 of them. In 1979, Mr. Spinelli, driving the GTAJ, won the “ Trofeo della Montagna”, the third zone for Special Car production ( group 5), on 90 drivers.
In the 1990-2000 decade the car was totally reconditioned, its paint was completely removed and was painted using the mythical setting of the 1972 Monza Four Hour .
The car driven by Litrico-Facetti, took part in that race as evidenced by the “Anderson” poster of the time.
From 2000 to 2006 the GTAJ car has taken part, always Mr. Spinelli as a driver, to 33 races in the “ Historic cars”, winning the first prize in the fifth time trial of Reventino, 17 victories in the fourth group and 30 first rankings. Moreover in the 2002 and 2003 years it was awarded the “ Cronosprint” trophy ( Sicily and Calabria championship), whose ranking accounted for the points won in the absolute 5 groupings.
In summary, from 1970 to 1974 the car raced in group 2, from 1975 to 1977 in the group 5, in 1978 the GTAJ raced in group 2, from 1979 to 1981 in group 5, from 2000 to 2006 it raced in the fourth grouping ( cars built from 1965 to 1971) and it still has got several records in uphill races.
The car still has the setting of the “ Targa Florio” centenary anniversary, which took place in 2006 and was in 2016 in the “ 100 Targa Florio Historic Speed” contest wearing the 186 number. On that event the art gallery Christian Stein in Milan has had a decorative work of art painted by “ Maestro” Domenico Bianchi on the front hood of the GTAJ.
Then a photo of the car was published, on page 147, in the book “ Giulia Coupè GT and GTA” by John Triper, edited by Vatated and Enlarged company, during the “ 2006 Targa Florio”.
The GTAJ car has raced 115 times and it has won 90 times in its class, 37 times in the grouping and 3 times absolute victories.
