1982 March Indycar Raced Indy 500 Complete
Amazing Barn Find! This a 1982 March Indcar with Cosworth DFX, complete race car as last raced in the Indycar series in 1983. Car was stored away the last thirty years in a climate controlled building, just as last raced in the July 3rd 1983 Cleveland Grand Prix Indycar race. The March is chassis number 82C-14. Was delivered new in 1982 to the Whittington Brothers. This car was prepared for brother Dale Whittington to race in the 1982 Indy 500, car was entered in the Indy 500 in 1982 and received the USAC sticker #0495, car number for the race was 95. Dale qualified the car for the 1982 Indy 500 in the 22nd starting position, he was a rookie for this race. On the first lap Kevin Cogan crashed into Foyt and then crashed into Mario Andretti, Dale spun by himself in the back of the pack and finished the race in 33rd spot. The Whittington brothers parked the car and it was updated with 1983 March bodywork for the 1983 Indy 500. The car was entered in the 1983 Indy 500 with Bill Whittington as the driver. The car received an additional USAC sticker when entered for the 1983 race, USAC stick was 1694 and the car was numbered 94 for the race.Bill qualified the car in the 15th position for the race and finished 18th with gearbox issues. After the Indy 500 Bill Whittington entered the car in several CART Indycar events, that CART sticker is also still affixed to the chassis. Bill ran the July 3rd Ceveland Grand Prix, Bill started 19th and finished 15th, filter housing stills has the date the team changed the filter for the race 7/3/83. This car along with other property was part of a seizure by the IRS, was sold at auction and then stored the last 30 years. This March Indycar is a time capsule, we see no major damage anywhere, totally complete as last raced. The engine was pickled properly after the last race and was prepared just as it should be after the race. This car is very unique, most of these cars are either in museums or were heavily modified for the AIS series and destroyed. This car is eligible for the SVRA events, including the event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in June. We have owned numerous Indycar's for the last 30 plus years and have never owned one this original or complete as last raced.
